F-Rated

F-Rated Championing women in film
Awarded to films directed/written by women
Founder: Holly Tarquini
Est 2014 We want diversity in filmmaking, both on and off screen.

The F-Rating Mission Statement

The stories we see on screen influence our lives. We want to hear stories from everyone, not just from one section of society. The F-Rating was founded by Holly Tarquini at Bath Film Festival 2014 where we wanted to highlight films which feature prominent women both behind the camera and in front of it. Every film which is directed and/or written by a woman receives

the F-Rating of approval. The F stands for feminist. Feminism is: “The belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities.” We believe that feminism benefits everyone. This is an open invitation to add an F-Rating stamp to any of your films, screenings, events, performances, or businesses which go towards redressing the balance. “We can discuss wage gaps and taxes on tampons and measure it in lots of quantifiable ways, but the violence of silencing ... It’s like we’re not even supposed to be angry. But I could eat this podium with a fork and fu***ng knife, I’m so angry.”

The actor, whose forthcoming directorial debut The Chronology of Water spent eight years in development, said women in the industry should ‘print our own currency’

🌱Ecosinema 2025: Lost for Words + Director's Q&A 🎬

We are over the moon to present 'Lost for Words,' a poetic, tender documentary inspired by the work of much-loved Wales based artist and illustrator Jackie Morris. Jackie’s book has touched so many lives here in Wales and beyond, and we couldn’t be happier to see her magic brought to life on the big screen.

Even more exciting: after the film, we’ll be joined by the film's director, Hannah Papacek Harper, for a live Q&A.

This is a rare chance to hear directly from the filmmaker about how the project came together; how children, elders, artists, and scientists all shaped this tapestry of wonder, and how Jackie’s vision helped inspire it.

📅 Thursday 9 October, 7.15pm

🌱 Ecosinema 2025: Lost for Words + Holi ac Ateb gyda’r Cyfarwyddwr 🎬

Rydym wrth ein bodd yn cyflwyno 'Lost for Words,' rhaglen ddogfen farddonol, dyner wedi'i hysbrydoli gan waith yr artist a'r darlunydd poblogaidd Jackie Morris. Mae llyfr Jackie wedi cyffwrdd â chymaint o fywydau yma yng Nghymru a thu hwnt, ac ni allem fod yn hapusach o weld ei hud yn dod yn fyw ar y sgrin fawr.

Hyd yn oed yn fwy cyffrous: ar ôl y ffilm, byddwn ni’n cael ymuno â chyfarwyddwr y ffilm, Hannah Papacek Harper, ar gyfer sesiwn holi ac ateb fyw.

Dyma gyfle prin i glywed yn uniongyrchol gan y ffilmwraig am sut ddaeth y prosiect at ei gilydd; sut y bu plant, hynafgwyr, artistiaid a gwyddonwyr i gyd yn siapio’r gwe pryfwaith rhyfeddol hwn, a sut y bu gweledigaeth Jackie yn ysbrydoliaeth iddo.

Watched An Army of Women last night at Watershed to a sold out audience Hosted by Reclaim The Frame with a Q&A with the film’s director Julie Lunde Lillesæter, CEO of SARSAS Lorri Weaving and Melanie Iredale.

This doc tells the story of a group of women in Austin, Texas, who filed a class-action lawsuit against the police and district attorney’s office who systematically failed to investigate or prosecute r**e and sexual assault cases.

The women are magnificent and the film focuses on them and not their assaults or assailants. I think it’s the first trauma informed film I’ve watched about violence against women.

It’s uplifting & inspirational and you may only be able to see it in the cinema so DO go and watch it on the big screen if you can.
