Very personal post/review of ALT BLK ERA's debut album "Rave Immortal", out on Earache Records.
Probably one of my faves from 2025, we know it's early but a good album is always appreciated.
What really worries, and truly angers me, is that reviewers are doing very lazy job in recent years, especially when it comes to music made by women, artists of colour or minorities artists. Majority of British music reviewers are white and male. When I read reviews that mention only white artists in them, or compare creators of colour to only white artists, without even researching artists' influences or roots, then we have a massive problem.
ALT BLK ERA created an album that is rich, diverse, gender-melting, yet somehow it's ignored. British music has always been multicultural, not just pale, sausages and porridge.
A call out to fellow writers, please research artists you review. Don't just compare them to the first white artist that is popular, sometimes artists you review have nothing to do with the artist you compared them to.
Bad journalism hurts readers and musicians. Do your job!!!
