The A.L.D collection.

Clearly, this list of five favourites has two heavy focusses. It is clear that I am currently thoroughly enjoying more dressy pieces, and in particular watches with playful dials.

Starting as a case make right here in Britain in 1874, have made cases for the likes of Rolex, Omega, Longines and even JLC.

Following an attempted relaunch as a watch brand in 2016, are now back with the A.L.D collection. A collection of beautifully executed and surprisingly affordable dress watches. The A.L.D certainly gives off an air of being a much more expensive watch than it actually is. Thanks to a Swiss Ronda quartz caliber, these 33.4mm stunners come in at around £500.

Now, some of you (a lot of my close watch friends included) would probably turn their noses up at this piece for being quartz. However, with no seconds hand and an impressive thickness of 6.05mm, I have no issue with it. Couple that with this being not only the first release of the brands rebirth, but also a release into a very popular market of 70’s style design, makes this watch an absolute cracker in my opinion.

It also seems from photos and articles that I have seen that due to the curvy lines of the case, it wears larger than the quoted size from the brand.

This watch looks absolutely fantastic, really in any of the available dial colours. That being said my pick would be the blue, no question. A watch that I would wear to death if it was part of my collection.

Hopefully; as with all of the pieces in this series of posts, I can get hands on with the full A.L.D lineup very soon!

The Rivanera.

Of course we all know that the ‘traditional’ watch shape is the good old circle. Whilst there have been many different watch shapes over the years, the rectangle is a design classic and a firm favourite of mine.

and are the synonymous brands with rectangular watches, but over the years too many brands to name have had a go with various levels of success.

Whilst a lot of the interpretations of rectangular watches have been fairly classic, have taken the traditional style of a rectangular watch and have modernised it perfectly. The use of titanium for the case gives off a dark, casual hue making this the perfect middle ground of a ‘dressy’ piece that can certainly be worn casually.

Now, I have not yet had a chance to see this watch in the metal, something that I really hope to be able to do in the New Year. Having not handled the watch yet I will reserve my full judgment, but initial impressions of this watch are very, very good…

The Berneron Mirage.

I really do not know how to sum up my love for this brand and their first model, the Mirage.

Watchmaking over the years has been a fairly stagnant pool of vintage reissues and Submariner knock-offs. But then came the well overdue appreciation for Cartier, which in turn brought avente garde 70’s designs to the forefront of collecting. The likes of , and a whole host of other brands have jumped on the bandwagon and it is fantastic.

The Mirage from Berneron is truly a masterpiece. The case shape is playful, unusual, but proportionally subtle and dressy. I absolutely adore this watch. What is also amazing, is the passion that is so obvious through the design. With such a funky case shape; and this being the brands first watch, it would have been very easy to have squeezed a regular movement into the back.

Berneron clearly thought sod that and have instead created one of the most visually stunning calibers that I have seen in a long time.

This watch fills my dreams and it has gone firmly to the top of my grail list. One day…

There have been a tonne of new watch releases recently. Obviously some from BIG brands that have fallen flat, not to name names…

For any of you holding your head in your hands thinking nothing exciting has come out of the watch industry of late, I am here to tell you that is very much not the case…

Playing on a slight theme here of blue dials, here are a few things I have been enjoying recently
