Seems like ages ago that we took a look around former RAF Bawdsey and it's R3 R.O.T.O.R bunker . The site above and below ground is of a fair size and started out as part of the chain home radar system which consisted of 8 large masts and a series of small bunkers to house transmitters . After world war two the site became one of the designated rotor radar stations and a much larger two storey bunker was built with big radars above ground . The site was also kitted out with bloodhound surface to air missiles and by the amount of launch pads on the surface of the site they had a fair few . Il show the surface stuff that remains in a future post as the bunker had so much to photograph . The site was decommissioned in the early 1990s and has remained abandoned since . fans Olight UK Abandoned City Camo Crew Military Abandoned Bases Structures World Wide Exploring With Kev

The tight squeeze into this litter filled sea mine control tower probably wasnt worth it but we always love a challenge . Its part of the ww2 modifications to fort coalhouse and its surrounding area protecting the Thames estuary. Its a shame to see it being used as a bin for the park but I guess with no actual bins about its always going to happen . The gate is locked to get inside but there is a ranger who has keys so leaving it like this is a disgrace really. Some nice views from inside though Kevin Wilson History Hunters UK Abandoned City Camo Crew Military Abandoned Bases Structures World Wide S.A Urban EXplores GROUP

A while back we got a heads up that somebody had opened up the napoleonic tunnels that were part of fort pitt in chatham so we rushed down as soon as we could to take a look knowing they wouldn't stay open for long . Fort pitt was built in the early 1800s although it was firts proposed in the 1700s but the bricks bought for the project were used on the inner lines defensive wall instead . Only a few parts of the fort remain visible today and those parts have been redeveloped into part of the fort pitt grammar school for girls . These tunnels are part of a large complex of tunnels that run completely under the school but with so many backfilled and bricked up walls its hard to progress too far . The last few pics are from the former guardhouse forming the end of the fort . This has now been resealed with concrete and probably wont be seen again for a long time . fans Olight UK Kevin Wilson S.A Urban EXplores GROUP

When i think of lead mines and the ones I had previously explored in the peak district they are usually quite dull affairs , set on one level with usually not much to see inside , so upon venturing here as you could guess I wasnt holding out too much hope but wow did I have a surprise waiting .

Mining was started in the Ystwyth valley during the roman occupation but obviously peaked during the 18th and early 19th century . The miners were mainly after lead or galena as the ore is known but also discovered small amounts of zinc and silver which they also bought out with them . Over the years the many adits and shafts along the hillside began to poison the local river and eventually kill off almost everything in it . A survey of the river in 1919 showed just 9 living specimens in the river mostly insects . In that particular survey the lead concentration in the water was a staggering 0.4mg per litre which is very high . Over the years surveys have continued and the lead concentration has dropped to around 0.04mg per litre in 1975 with fish finally returning to the river but still not within 3km of the mine itself . I wonder if 50 years after that survey was done wether the fish have fully returned or is the river still too polluted from a forgotten industry. In October 2002 the band tynnodol sundisc was found at the site making it the oldest gold item ever found in wales at a staggering 4000 years old . The site above and below ground is now a scheduled monument due to it preserving all the different eras of mining all underground . From the roman workings very high up to the more modern stuff lower down this place had it all amd I can't wait for a second visit to see what lays in wait uo the ladders .

Part of chatham lines built during the napoleonic wars fmto proctect the dockyard this small area seems to be a cut through fron the dry ditch to the top of the line it stands on bringing you close to a casemated area that housed four large guns . During World War two two extra tunnels seem to have been dug from the west side and semi lined with corrugated sheets or iron to convert the tunnels into an air raid shelter. Looking at the state of it now I wouldn't of felt safe in there . The cieling just being mud thats slowly crumbling away really put me on edge in this one . fans S.A Urban EXplores GROUP Olight UK

Before and after the tourbus has been to a place . Here we have a mercury arc rectifier or should I say did have . It was used to convert electrical currents to operate a lift inside Londons deep level air raid shelters during World War two. Anybody with half a brain would stay away from something that has mercury inside it but nope they just couldn't help themselves . From one of the coolest alien looking things I've ever come across to now just an empty box with hanging cables and smashes glass on the floor 😭 History Hunters UK Kevin Wilson

The main adit or level fawr in Welsh of this mixed metal mine in mid wales is an incredible place to explore . The mines in this valley date back as far as the bronze age and although this level is alot more modern the higher you go inside the closer you can get to the ancient workings . Mainly mined for lead but other metals that came from here include silver and zinc with most of the production coming in the 18th and 19th century . Now the mines lay silent but still full of relics of an industrial past while water pouring from the mines continue to pollute the nearby river all these years later . I stayed on just one level while inside although the ladders had ropes next to them so assist it still wouldn't be worth the risk on my own . fans Olight UK

RNAD milford haven was a royal naval sea mine production facility on the Pembrokeshire coast . Formally a ship breakers yard the land was purchased by the admiralty in 1934 and construction began immediately. By the time war broke out the facility was ready and in full swing, consisting of six large underground storage sheds cut into the valley behind it was the perfect place to mass produce mines for the war effort . A large reservoir was built on the cliffs above the valley incase of an explosion with the idea to flood the valley before it spread to the factories . All the sheds were connected by rail that also traveled up the pier to awaiting ships and also connected to the mainline via a swing bridge . At the peak of ww2 over one thousand people worked at the facility and it stayed operational until the 1980s when it was sold to a racing company . Its now been approved for a conversion into a residential complex so it could all soon be lost . fans Olight UK Kevin Wilson History Hunters UK Notts crew

Mid wales mixed metal mine top level . This mine only operated for around 30 years but in that time managed to become a very impressive labyrinth of adits and shafts . Mainly mined for lead with abit of silver ontop with a peak workforce of around 300 men it closed in the 1930s and had remained abandoned since. fans Olight UK
