I’ve been talking a lot about confidence lately. About getting to know myself more after being diagnosed with ADHD.

And that is happening, but it’s not always simple.

This post is something I’ve been sitting with for a few days. Something I wasn’t sure whether to share.

But I know I’m not the only one who feels like this.

The version of me people see isn’t always the full picture.
And even now, with more awareness and self-compassion, I still fall into spirals that knock me sideways.

This one started with a single comment.

It led to panic, shame, self-doubt and exhaustion.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re “too much”…
If you’ve ever come home from something feeling like you got it all wrong…

This is for you ❤️

I spent over 30 years thinking I was disorganised, inconsistent, messy, careless… just bad at being an adult.

Then I got diagnosed with ADHD this year.

It didn’t fix everything (or anything, really). But it finally explained why everything had always felt harder than it should.

This is what I’ve learned since then.

For anyone who’s been masking, coping, and second-guessing yourself for years: You’re not broken. You just might not have the full story yet. 🫶🏻

She didn’t know it yet, but Kangaroo Care was doing more than I ever realised.

Helping her heart regulate.
Helping her brain grow.
Helping her feel safe.
Helping me start to feel like a mum after 10 long days of waiting to hold her for the first time.

I was terrified.
Not just the first time… for weeks.
Terrified of her desatting. Of doing it wrong. Of the alarms going off. Of needing help to even lift her off my chest.

It didn’t feel magical. It didn’t feel natural.

It felt like I was pretending to be something I wasn’t sure I was yet as I sat there watching the monitors instead of her face.

Kangaroo care isn’t always soft-focus and peaceful music.

Sometimes it’s sweat, fear, and holding your breath while trying to do the most basic thing, hold your baby.

And still, it’s medicine. It’s connection. It sometimes feels like all you can do.

If you’re in that stage right now, wondering if what you’re doing is enough... It is. And you are. 💜

5 years since lockdown.

5 years since doorstep pot clanging, banana bread baking like it was a competitive sport, and going through the fastest Zoom learning curve possible to stay connected.

This was the start of it for us. Coming out of NICU, navigating isolation with a tiny vulnerable baby, the house was (not even) half finished, and we somehow all still thought it would all blow over in a few weeks.

Turns out, it was the start of the most intense, transformative, exhausting five years of our lives.

Renovations we massively underestimated, rogue trades, solo COVID Christmases, rearranged weddings, business launches, cancelled holidays, actual holidays, birthday crowns, a long-awaited kitchen, and finally… school.

A little timeline from then to now, because I’ve loved seeing everyone else’s.

A bit of a full circle moment.

(But also: we’re still renovating. Some things never change.)

A very late February recap…

💘 Hosted a Palentine’s playdate for Margot’s class. Not sure what possessed me, but we survived.

📸 Got absolutely humbled by a Photo Booth when renewing my passport. The first attempt was…unusable. Made an emergency trip to a friends house for her to take new ones for me 🤣

🩷 10 years together! We don’t really celebrate our first date anniversary anymore, but I knew he’d forget, so I went all out 😜

🎨 Got the lounge painted. They messed it up BAD. Had to urgently pay someone to fix it before said Palentine’s play date. Literally sat and watched someone sand £600 off the walls and start again. Love that for me.

🪑 Found an antique chest of drawers on Marketplace for a ridiculously good price. Drove 2 hours to pick it up so probably spent more on fuel than buying a local one. Cool.

🎶 Learning some new bangers with

🖌️ Making progress on reclaiming the playroom. New sofas pending 🕰️

💪 The Gladiators obsession has reached new heights. Costume, theme tune, commentary - fully committed.

🐣 Easter crafts started early because waiting until actual Easter is for amateurs. Not shown: subsequent painting of a bottom pooping.

❄️ Took Margot to Disney on Ice. Spent £35 on a light up Maui hook that’s £12 on Amazon.

🏡 I’m in the process of helping to furnish my parents’ newly refurbished house. Essentially I just buy everything I can’t afford and live vicariously through them. Deliveries have started arriving.

👖 I’ve lost over 2 stone since December so went to work out what size I am now. 2 sizes down so far!

And now March is halfway over and I’m still catching up.
