Headmaster, Paul Vicars, commented: "It has been a privilege to witness the joy and relief as students and families have received their results this morning. The message this year continues to be one of celebration of the strong results the students have achieved, whilst also recognising the quality and breadth of this cohort’s contribution to the School community which has been outstanding over so many years.
"These students have immersed themselves in the co-curricular life of the School providing them with the all-important balance and perspective to successfully meet life’s challenges in the years ahead. Today’s students include those with international sporting honours and the highest performing arts accolades, whose achievements outside of the classroom now sit equitably alongside excellent academic achievements.
"Almost half of all grades gained were 7-9 with the majority of students now proceeding into the School’s Sixth Form, where Grade 7s or above in chosen A Level subjects are required for automatic entry. The Sixth Form continues the School’s focus on knowing each individual, developing strong core values and nurturing wider interests and skills that develop broad minded and ambitious learners. In addition to the regular academic curriculum, these students will enjoy a range of further opportunities designed to provide the launchpad and mindset for success after school.
"These include the Beyond the Curriculum programme (BTC) which develops core skills including critical thinking, presentation, research and interview skills, alongside bespoke Oxbridge, medical, engineering and apprenticeship pathway preparation and support from the dedicated Futures Team. Many Sixth Formers particularly enjoy the volunteering, mentoring and leadership opportunities that are integral to the warm community that characterises an all-through school."
Paul Vicars added: "I truly believe that an investment in a child’s education is the very best investment families can ever make, and a Birkenhead School education, recognised by the Sunday Times as 2025 Independent Secondary School of the Year in the North-West, is one where we are committed to all-round excellence, and balance.
"With the trend of increased competition for Senior School places at the Year 7 entry point expected to continue into the years ahead, families wishing to find out more about a Birkenhead School education, including means-tested bursary support, are strongly encouraged
to sign up early to attend one of the School’s Michaelmas Term Open Events – Seniors (Year 7 to Sixth Form) Thursday 9th October; Prep (Primary ages) Friday 14th November."
