'On His Todd'

With the return of summer comes the return of Friday 18, the Friday night, 60 minute music sport in the Square, starting at 6pm, and designed to help put you in a good mood for the weekend.

Now in its fourth year, the local event initiated by local Broxtowe councillor and former Mayor Teresa Cullen, attracts all manner of musicians from rock to jazz to folk. But not limited to the NG9 area.

Tonight it was the turn of 19 year old songwriter Joshua Todd, who lives in Gedling and will be going to study at Confetti later this year, and is in the process of putting a band together.

He played a selection of his own rock based songs, together with a cover of a Killers tune, and 'Graceland' by Paul Simon. Which we might hear again, if he's chosen to play Beeston's Oxjam this year.

It seems that Broxtowe Council have got their act together this year, with seats available for the audience, cover for the musicians and now a flyer with the list of artists appearing this year and which Friday night they will be on.

Next week is Simran Johal.

☀️ Good evening Beestonians!

It's hot out intit?

It reminds us the day we had a stall and shared these fabulous custom made display boards adorned with Beeston folk, art and poetry at Beeston Carnival a few summers back.

You might have seen them? They got about a bit!

Those beautiful boards have been well looked after by the superb team at The Garage Chilwell but now they need the space for something else...

Which means we are looking for somewhere else handy that can host them for us for a little while.

❤️ Can anyone in our fab community help?

There are five boards in total.

When Fiona of Greenwood Step Clog Dancers got in touch to tell us she and her dynamic dancers are touring Beeston to keep this East Midlands tradition very much alive, we thought we should share this news with our followers.

Who doesn't love a bit of merrymaking on a Monday night?

You will find them at The Star Inn at 8pm on Monday 21st July - don't miss it!

In the meantime, here's a little piece to tell you more about where this tradition came from, featuring a few jolly shots of Beeston celebrity Tony Gayle dancing.

Enjoy!

The Greenwood Step Clog Dancers are in town again next Monday, so get yourselves down to the Star Inn for 8pm and enjoy being caught up in the energy of this traditional dance from that originates from the Mills & Factories of the Industrial North, Midlands & Wales. “The steps replicate the factor...

☀️ Happy sunshine Monday Beeston!

The working week begins for many of us today, so we hope it's a good one.

Our last I Am Beeston featured a Beestonian who is very happy in her work at award winning Beeston Nursery - Medusa Sojourn.

You can read all about the journey that brought her from North Notts to South Notts, and all the bits in between, in Christopher Frost's interview with her earlier this year.

Medusa Sojourn – Nursery Owner “Although I was born in the City Hospital, as I originally came from Sherwood, between the age of one and four I lived in India with relations. My parents ran the off-licence on Lilac Crescent and were very busy building up the business. They worked long hours, so ...
