🦇 CAPULLO NEW 52 VARIANTS 🦇

At some point, I think after seeing them in a video, I decided to start hunting these convention exclusive Greg Capullo variants down, and am happy to finally have the 3 I was looking for.
The first two are repurposed panels; a Detective 27 homage from Year Zero, and a half-splash from issue one. The newest addition to my collection features the first promo art shown when it was announced that Capullo would be penciling Batman, and I always saw it as sort of a first draft of that would become the cover for issue 1. (Swipe for a comparison)

Which one is your favorite? What variants are you after?

🦇 LEE AND LOEB RETURNING TO MAIN BATMAN TITLE? 🦇

As reported by bleeding cool today, rumor has it that DC CCO and comics legend Jim Lee will be re-teaming with his “Hush” writer Jeph Loeb for a potential new Batman #1, resetting the numbering started in 2016 by DC Rebirth.

This superstar creative team would return to the book in 2025, for an unknown amount of issues. This is all rumor and speculation until an official announcement is made by DC.

🦇 FAN EXPO 2024 BATMAN HAUL 🦇

Well, another summer is drawing to a close and with it comes Toronto’s annual Fan Expo, a con that I always attend, for better or worse. The line-up of comic guests was, to put a positive spin on it— “manageable”, meaning I had next to no trouble seeing all the guests I wanted, while only attending 2 days of the con. Swipe for signatures from Yanick Paquette, Marc Silvestri, along with Geoff Johns and Brad Anderson adding to my first ever triple-signed book, Three Jokers # 1.

I was also able to plug some holes in the collection, some fun crossover stuff I’ve been exposed to while working on the next BatFacts episode, and some awesome variants I’ve been looking for for a while like SDCC Batman 32, Cacophony with all Robins, and DKIII by Rafael Grampa.

I haven’t opened my blind bagged ‘Tec 27 to see what image Mattina stole to make the cover. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Happy Caped Crusader day to all who are celebrating. I haven’t had a chance yet, but I look forward to diving back into Gotham and discussing its finer details with everyone.

Enjoy!

🦇 BATMAN AND ROBIN: YEAR ONE 🦇

Just announced and shooting to the top of my pull list is “Batman and Robin:Year One” by comics legend Mark Waid () and the great Chris Samnee ().

“In Batman and Robin: Year One, while Bruce Wayne adjusts to the realities of adopting orphan Dick Grayson, a mysterious new crime boss called the General has come to Gotham to claim the city by disrupting and destroying its other mobs. But what is his connection to Two-Face? Batman and his new sidekick, Robin, are out for answers, but it’ll take everything they have to navigate both sides of their relationship as father and son and dynamic duo, with Dick Grayson’s present and future hanging in the balance!”

🦇 ABSOLUTE BATMAN 🦇

is bringing an exclusive ashcan to SDCC this year, launching their Absolute universe. Much like Marvel’s Ultimate line, it introduces a new shared universe for newer takes on classic characters from top industry talent.

ABSOLUTE BATMAN marks the return of fan favorite writer Scott Snyder () to the dark knight, this time teamed with artist Nick Dragotta ( , who draws a bulky, long eared but otherwise Miller-esque Batman, with a fun new logo design in these preview images shared by .

🃏 FOLIE A DEUX TEASER ♦️

A few of my favorite shots from the JOKER: Folie a Deux Teaser. What did everyone think?

My thoughts:
- I’m kind of surprised they’re flat out calling her Harley
- The teaser gave very little away, which is nice
- The last shot is fantastic

I remain cautiously optimistic.

🦇 ZUR EN ARRH 🦇

Just ‘cause I’m a sucker for the red, yellow and purple, I had to pick up this Zur En Arrh in the wild. You’ll notice I spelled out the entire “Zur En Arrh”, as I absolutely refuse to refer to this person as “Zur”. Sorry, , I refuse. It’s the wackest part of an otherwise great storyline.

ANYway… Happy to add this to my Zur En Arrh collection, and I dig the modern relaunch of the super powers line from . Now, if only they’d make a kite-man already. 🪁

🦇 PROJECT APOLLO 🦇

Recently uncovered production footage and stills from Monolith Games detail “Project Apollo”, a game in development at WB meant to exist within the Nolanverse. Most notably, the footage features the genesis of what would be called the “Nemesis system”, and now WB-copyrighted feature that was introduced in “Shadows of Mordor”, the LOTR spin-off title that “Project Apollo” eventually became.

The Nemesis System would have seen the street thugs that Batman battles come back stronger and deadlier after each defeat by Batman, which adds a fun depth to otherwise cut and paste NPCs. Apparently this feature is set to be used in an upcoming Wonder Woman game.

After 18-months of development Project Apollo shared many common elements with Rocksteady’s Arkham series, but was scrapped due to a lack of interest from Christopher Nolan, and elements were used by the developer for Shadows of Mordor.

🦇 THE WINNING CARD 🃏

This week marks the release of the long-awaited collected edition of Tom King () and Mitch Gerads’ () retelling of Batman and Joker’s first meeting, “The Winning Card”.
A follow-up of sorts to their superb “Batman: One Bad Day: The Riddler: Dreadful Reins” technically this release is called “Batman: The Brave and the Bold: Vol. 1 - The Winning Card”, which means it follows the Riddler story tonally and stylistically, but also in its use of several colons in its title.

Batman: Brave and the Bold: The Winning card collects the story from Batman: Brave and the Bold 1,2,5 & 9, and it’s available at some stores today and some tomorrow. Thursday for sure.
