the album CLAY from and is out now.
Greg Fenton reviewing the album for magazinesixty.com -
“I was surprised when I listened to the new album from Momoko & Herbert—surprised because hearing a relative masterpiece seems like an increasingly rare proposition these days, like a lost ghost from yesterday’s memory. A masterpiece, insofar as it is a collection of tastefully crafted songs, sung with tempting conviction, accompanied by tantalising sounds that capture the eloquence of rhythm and contemporary electronic discourse.
It also comes inspired by the brilliant flair of Jazz, which is always an essential spark in my book.
I love the symmetry occurring within the two voices on ‘Heart’. The haunting whisper of Clear Water and its immersive synths evoke the art of David Sylvian. The sense of hope cruising through Need To Run – the harmonies blend like heaven as the chorus rings true and shivers race up and down the spine. The innate, celebratory beauty of Babystar.
Never afraid to believe in its sincerity or to rely on cliques to fill in gaps, the creativity and purpose run deep throughout this album. And so it goes on. As songs, melodies, and musical excellence adorn this collection of sounds attuned to the human condition in a world of uncertain moments, reminding us that music can still be a powerful, reconnecting voice when it needs to dispel the cynicism that surrounds us.
Circle Shore completes the picture. It is simply an exceptional piece of music punctuated by the impossible dream of drums and words to fulfil the questions asked.”
