This year we were lucky enough to release three truly special reissues from I.C.E. aka Lafayette Afro-Rock Band.

In 1971, an undocumented seven-member Afro-American ensemble known as the Bobby Boyd Congress made a transformative journey from the United States to France. Originally meant to be a short stint of six months, the group was fueled by the inspiration they found their and ended up staying for over a decade.

In 1971 the group moved to Paris in what was meant to be a short stint of six months. They ended up staying for 10 years.

After immersing themselves in the predominantly African community of the Barbesse district and going through some membership changes, the group rechristened themselves as Lafayette Afro Rock Band and later I.C.E. Their musical direction followed close behind as they shifted towards predominantly instrumental compositions, characterized by a weightier, more intricate Afro-funk sound.

Later, the group was heavily sampled in a multitude of Hip-Hop projects, extending their legacy even further.

We’ve remastered and rereleased some of their most impactful projects including Afro Agban, Disco Frankenstein, and Each Man Makes His Destiny.

All are available through the Strut Store.

It’s birthday! To celebrate we’ve uploaded a brand new, live version of ‘Tezeta’ to our YouTube.

This take was recorded at during downtime whilst recording ‘Mulatu Plays Mulatu’, and like any Mulatu performance it’s equally as unique as it is familiar.

Go listen to the full version and wish the Godfather of Ethio-Jazz a happy birthday whilst treating yourself to this rendition.

We’re looking back this time of year and Presents: Pico immediately came to mind.

In a truly unique collection, the Berlin-based Colombian DJ, producer, and curator Edna Martinez presents a sonic journey into the world of Picó. More than just music, Picó is a way of life, a bold expression of identity, community, and resistance.

This compilation brings together rare, sought-after tracks, tracing deep musical connections between Colombia, Africa, and the Greater Caribbean. Featuring artists like Los Corraleros De Majagual, Peacocks International Highlife Band, Pedro Lima, Zaïko Langa Langa, and more, the album also includes edits by Edna Martinez, reimagining timeless rhythms for contemporary audiences while staying true to their original spirit.

From Cartagena to Barranquilla, from Africa to the Caribbean—experience the sound by heading to our store to get yourself a copy.

‘Babystar (Herbert’s Anything Dub)’ is out now.

Tripped out, thumping and tinged with a darkly mysterious undertone, the track adds to the already striking tune in unforeseen ways.

With Momoko’s vocals sampled and manipulated from the original track, the release sits as perfectly on the dance floor as it does blasting in headphones, and is unmistakably Matthew Herbert in its production.

This Sunday, Matthew Herbert & Momoko Gill will play their critically acclaimed record, Clay, at Village Underground in London.

We are thrilled to announce that will be joining them.

Tickets are on sale now.

Definitely What! (1968) captured a pivotal moment in London’s late-’60s underground scene, when jazz, blues, and rock musicians freely crossed genres.

Created by the pioneering British keyboardist and Hammond organ virtuoso Brian Auger, the album helped shape early jazz-rock fusion and showcased his fearless blend of jazz, R&B, psychedelic colour, and soulful grooves.

Supported by Trinity bandmates Dave Ambrose and Clive Thacker, Auger moved confidently into jazz territory with bold originals and inventive covers, from Wes Montgomery to The Beatles.

Often cited as one of the first artists to articulate a “fusion” concept before the term existed, Auger’s innovation here laid the groundwork for his influential 1970s project, the Oblivion Express.

This new Strut reissue, remastered and curated with Auger’s involvement, highlights an album that remains a vibrant snapshot of ’60s musical experimentation and Auger’s enduring impact on music.

2close2farr is a simple song about love that doesn’t fit into categories. Life feels colourful and polyrhythmical when we accept love in all its different shapes–it suddenly expands exponentially and breathes freely. Sometimes It takes time to become comfortable with the constellation of connections that exists between us, and to be unashamed of love that baffles us.

I’m currently on tour in Japan with . Tomorrow we will be playing metro_kyoto. If you’re near please come and say hi
