This year we were lucky enough to release three truly special reissues from I.C.E. aka Lafayette Afro-Rock Band.
In 1971, an undocumented seven-member Afro-American ensemble known as the Bobby Boyd Congress made a transformative journey from the United States to France. Originally meant to be a short stint of six months, the group was fueled by the inspiration they found their and ended up staying for over a decade.
In 1971 the group moved to Paris in what was meant to be a short stint of six months. They ended up staying for 10 years.
After immersing themselves in the predominantly African community of the Barbesse district and going through some membership changes, the group rechristened themselves as Lafayette Afro Rock Band and later I.C.E. Their musical direction followed close behind as they shifted towards predominantly instrumental compositions, characterized by a weightier, more intricate Afro-funk sound.
Later, the group was heavily sampled in a multitude of Hip-Hop projects, extending their legacy even further.
We’ve remastered and rereleased some of their most impactful projects including Afro Agban, Disco Frankenstein, and Each Man Makes His Destiny.
All are available through the Strut Store.
