Which would you rather take for a spin? 🤔

Was just sorting out some media and found this photo, one that I’d completely forgotten that I had ever taken. On one side, a shiny helicopter that I regularly dangled under to go help people that had got themselves into a bit of bother. On the other, a bike that regularly gets me into a bit of bother! 🤣 Suppose it’s a bit yin and yang.

Both those ve-hi-cles photo well, eh? 💪🏻

What was your first bike? 🤔

I was just sorting out load of photos and found these beauties - me and my good friend riding sports bikes in our yoof.

Bike #1 was a black Suzuki SV650. I bought it from “up north” from some dodgy geezer who clearly hadn’t maintained it, and who mugged off a very young and naive Ollie Moto. Knowing what I know now, there is no way it would have passed the fresh MOT that came with it, and I would not have bought it. The bike lasted a couple of months but then blew itself to pieces on the way back from watching the BSB at Mallory Park. Shame, it was fun to ride.

So, bike #2 was a Kwak Ninja 600. I absolutely loved that thing, rode it like a hooligan and went touring all over the UK with it. I didn’t have nice gear back then though, just a tent bungeed to the rear seat and my (quite clearly) oversized textiles. I think they were my Dad’s.

Happy times. Happy memories. I wish Sean still owned that Repsol VFR400 too. I’d buy it off him👌🏻

The Ollie Moto shop is back up and running! And, to celebrate, there's even a sale on a few items. It's all for grabs - t-shirts, hats, mugs, neck tubes, stickers... etc - so go and have a browse.

My bobble hats are super popular and tend to sell out right away, so if you've been pining for one for a while, I'd get one while you can! And yes, the bobble hat in this photo is (quite clearly, and intentionally poorly) photoshopped in... 😂

Despite owning one, obviously, I don't seem to have a single photo with me wearing it 🤦🏼‍♂️ They will make you look that cool though.

I won an award! I didn’t get the opportunity to brag about it at the time so I’m going to do it now: I was only voted the favourite The Trail and Adventure Motorbike Podcast guest of 2023! 👊🏻

I’m a big fan of the TAMPodcast, and they’ve had some mega guests, so it’s pretty cool that I somehow won. The actual physical award may be tiny, but I’m still pretty humbled.

I doubt I’ll be able to defend my crown though as I’ve not been on there at all recently 👑 Also, knowing Clive as well as I do, having used me to gain traction and fame for his channel I’m sure he’ll just discard me now. Never trust a SBW. Noel’s alright tbf.

Watch me wrestle a BMW GS 1250 through the dunes of Morocco for 3 episodes of around 30 minutes each. I only fell off twice. Not bad for me eh? 😉 Also, to answer the multiple repeated question: No, I have no plans to own a GS.

Remember when I was cool and owned a (semi) working KTM 990? Well, at present I own a barely working Batbike. Please take this post as my permission to hound Olly at WrenchRide to fix it for me. I’m too busy, and I’m sure he has loads of spare time… 😂

I’m chatting to the legend himself tomorrow for a catch-up. Your harassment will give me some ammo and, if he’s still not sold on the idea, I’ll escalate to using the ammo from that tank thing instead.

I took this photo having been stood in this exact spot for about 2 hours. Just where that palm tree is the sand got mad deep, which resulted in utter chaos. Bikes stuck, riders down, the lot.

At this point I could write some inspirational stuff about never giving up or whatever. What actually happened was we spent our free time giving relentless banter for a) breaking his bike and b) not bothering to make us a coffee (whilst he was fixing his bike, and we were just chilling). Once he was sorted we thought “nah f this” and found some tarmac.

Can’t win them all! 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

I’ve had a lot of questions recently about whether I still have the Batbike. Of course I do! I’ll never sell that thing.

It is currently dead though, and won’t be up and running for a while yet. Don’t worry, it will definitely be back on your screens at some point… breaking down... requiring more fixing… 🔧😂

You get the measure of people on adventure. When you’re tired, hungry, working hard, and still have a long way to ride, only then do you see people’s true character. My favourite riding buddies are those that still keep cracking jokes, even when it’s all going to sh*t, and don’t take life too seriously. This lot didn’t take anything too seriously! 😂 The banter was fierce…
