“The em dash is already quite accustomed to controversy,” writes Andi Zeisler. “It’s the black licorice of dashes: Those who like it love it; those who don’t will loudly and repeatedly let you know. But the emergence of a third faction — those who have suspicions of the em dash — puts a new spotlight on one of punctuation’s perennial hot topics."

The em dash is now under scrutiny — not just from editors and writers, but from Gen Z influencers and AI skeptics accusing it of being a bot tell.

Looking back on 2024, there have been lots of fun and interesting projects I've had the pleasure of work on; this is a selection of some of the print-based ones: the Mark Wirtz boxset for Cherry Red Records; the '150 years of the Cavendish Laboratory' cover for Cambridge University's CavMag; and children's chapter book 'Nature Boy' by Keith Hatton (Ginger Cat Tales). Got some good stuff already lined up for 2025. Watch this space!

One day until the launch of ‘Nature Boy’ by Keith Hatton... It was really fun doing the illustrations with a bit more ‘real’ nature/plants/wildlife in them! Some great themes and ideas in this story, and it was a joy to be able to help bring them to life.
