Sub Generation Records has had a strong and meaningful run, and I remain proud of everything we achieved during its time.
However, since returning to music at the start of 2024, it became clear that the Drum & Bass landscape has changed significantly from the period between 2012 and 2014, when we were consistently charting and hosting events. The scene today feels far more fragmented, with a noticeable shift away from the sense of unity and shared ethos that once defined it
I’ve also seen wider changes across related genres. Dubstep no longer holds the same position it once did, and Breaks has largely moved back underground
My respect for Drum & Bass and Breaks as musical styles remains unchanged. However, based on my experience over the past two and a half years, I have found the wider environment increasingly difficult to align with.
There is, in my view, a greater prevalence of ego-driven behaviour and a lack of substance in parts of the scene. This is not a reflection of the music itself, but of certain dynamics within it.
Taking all of this into account, I have made the decision to step away from Sub Generation Records.
This is a considered and final decision. The label will continue to support and honour all existing and signed releases, but no new material will be taken on moving forward.
I want to thank everyone who has been part of the journey—artists, collaborators, and supporters alike. What we built mattered, and it will always stand as part of the label’s legacy.
