EXPOSÉ: Inside the Studio Behind The K’s Chart-Topping Success
In a celebration that marked more than just a number one album, members of Earlestown indie rock band The K’s returned to their number 1 albums creative birthplace—Soundhouse Recording Studio—on Friday 1st August, following the explosive success of their new release Pretty on the Internet, which retains its No. 1 position in the UK album charts.
What began as a four-month recording journey has now transformed into a full-circle moment for the band, as they reunited with fans at the very studio that shaped their sound—and, arguably, their future. Soundhouse, already known within industry circles as a world-class recording facility, now finds itself under an even brighter spotlight, thanks to the album’s continuing chart dominance.
Bassist Dex Baker didn’t hold back in his praise for the studio, describing it as integral to the evolution of the band’s sound.
“It was a great experience recording at Soundhouse. The studio gave us a different level of sound compared to our first album, and everyone there really looked after us. It’s great to be back to meet fans and promote the album.”
But it wasn’t just the band members who were singing Soundhouse’s praises. Manager David Cameron-Pryde went further, placing the studio in the lineage of the North West’s legendary recording hubs.
Calling Soundhouse “a little gem”, Cameron-Pryde credited the studio’s rare fusion of vintage and cutting-edge gear as one of its key advantages:
“Being involved in the music scene around Manchester, we’ve always heard of Strawberry Studios where The Smiths and Stone Roses recorded. Soundhouse has that same magic – a high-spec studio outside of a major city, proving you don’t need to be in the centre to make it happen.”
And the buzz around the studio isn’t confined to the music industry. Local officials are taking note of the cultural and economic value it brings to the region. Cllr Lappin, present during the celebration, remarked on the studio’s creative significance and the talent it fosters:
“It was inspiring to see and hear firsthand, the incredible story of Soundhouse Recording Studio and to see the levels of talent and innovation here, which have helped The K’s achieve their chart success this week.”
As Pretty on the Internet continues to dominate, it’s clear that Soundhouse is no longer just a hidden gem—it’s a force to be reckoned with in the UK’s recording landscape. This is not just a story of a band at number one; it’s the story of the studio behind the sound.
