Ashley Solomon returns to Chichester on Sunday 7 September, 3pm at St John’s Chapel, directing and performing with the Consort of Twelve in "The Italian Connection".

This all-Italian Baroque programme showcases the brilliance of Vivaldi, Corelli, Geminiani, Galuppi, and more. Expect virtuosic fireworks, from Vivaldi’s dreamlike La Notte to Galuppi’s operatic flute concerto. The concert opens with Charles Avison’s inventive reworking of Scarlatti’s sonatas into a striking concerto grosso.
With dynamic contrasts and rich textures from a string orchestra alone, the programme promises drama and fresh discoveries for listeners.

St Peter’s Church, Petersfield, was the perfect setting for a superb concert by the Solent Chamber Orchestra. The programme featured Elgar’s lush Serenade for Strings, Crusell’s playful Sinfonia Concertante—with brilliant soloists—and a passionate performance of Beethoven’s 1st Symphony. From expert direction by Kirstie Robertson to Steve Tanner’s spirited conducting, the musicians shone with skill, energy, and joy. Standing players and strong ensemble communication made the afternoon especially engaging.
