Jack caught up with Wendy Graves at PRINTING United Alliance Expo in Orlando to talk about Make it Happen Signage Consultancy Ltd., which she runs in the US as a partner with Sam Armstrong.
Wendy delivers sign-making training across the country, flying in to work with local vendor partners who open their doors to host the boot camps. She takes the courses Sam develops in the UK, Americanises them, and delivers them to mixed groups from different companies and different roles within the industry.
We talk about , the Facebook group she started in 2021 that now has over 1,500 members. They hold annual meetups capped at 25-30 people for an intimate gathering, and Wendy's keen to collaborate with other women's groups in the industry, including Women in Signs and Graphics in the UK.
Wendy's journey into signage started when her husband left a commercial sign company to buy his own business. At the time, she was an x-ray tech who knew all the bones in the body but couldn't tell you anything about signs. Twelve years later, she's training sign-makers and passionate about bringing the next generation into the industry.
She was a Printing United Expo All-Star this year, which connected her with industry leaders across the globe. We also discuss why education and collaboration are so important for the future of the industry.
