One of the most important coronation rites for any Olubadan of Ibadan is that, he must prostate to the women of Ibadanland as a symbol of respect to the Yoruba women which depicts the powers that women wielded in Yorubaland in precolonial times 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.
Europeans or Arabs did not teach the Yoruba race about women's rights, we had with us for thousands of years.
Women are the custodians of Yoruba civilization.
Preach it!!!!!

*Soulmate and Reincarnation of Olubadan*

One of the most revered souls to have occupied the throne of Olubadan was undoubtedly Oba Yusuf Oloyede Asanike. He catapulted Ibadan to unprecedented heights of popularity, embodying the qualities the city sought in a king. Unlike his predecessor, Kobiowu, who ruled Ibadan briefly in the 1960s and was more popular in name than action, Asanike's impact was palpable. His palace is also historically noted, Asanike's legacy lives on through his remarkable leadership.

Oba Asanike was a king of immense popularity, humor, and wisdom. He skillfully navigated complex situations, turning potential negatives into positives.

One notable example of his diplomatic prowess was how he handled politicians, particularly MKO Abiola, who was infamous for his numerous relationships.

When Abiola visited Asanike and inquired about his wives' welfare, the king tactfully steered the conversation back to the purpose of the visit, discreetly sidestepping any potential controversy.

Asanike also demonstrated his wit and authority in his dealings with other monarchs, such as the Ooni and Alaafin, who were vying for the chairmanship of the Oba in Oyo State.

With characteristic humor and wisdom, Asanike installed himself as chairman, effectively diffusing the tension.

One of Asanike's notable appointments was Rashidi Ladoja, whom he named Mogaji and later elevated to Jagun Olubadan on October 1, 1993.

The Oracle suggests that history may repeat itself with Ladoja's ascension to the throne, given his similarities to Asanike and his past benevolence towards the people of Ibadan.

In fact, Ladoja's installation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland is set for September 26, 2025, following Governor Seyi Makinde's approval.

This coronation marks a significant moment for Ibadan, with Ladoja's wealth of experience as a former governor and statesman expected to bring a unique perspective to the traditional role.

As Ladoja prepares to ascend the throne, many are drawing parallels between his potential reign and that of his mentor, Asanike.

With his proven track record of leadership and goodwill, Ladoja's tenure as Olubadan could indeed be a memorable one, building on the foundations laid by his predecessors and potentially ushering in a new era of prosperity for Ibadan.

_*LADOJA AND ASHANKE:*_
_*THE FACE OF IBADAN'S MOST POPULAR OLUBANDANS*_

_As Ibadan once again rolls out the drums to celebrate the new Olubadan (Baba Rashidi Adewolu LADOJA), memory drifts into history to ask: who is the most popular Olubadan in the annals of Ibadanland? Popularity is a fluid word; it may mean humor, humanity, prosperity, or political relevance. But in the collective memory of Ibadan indigenes, two names stand tall: Oba Yesufu Oloyede Ashanke and Oba Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja._

_*Oba Ashanke: The King of Humor and Humanity.*_

_Oba Yesufu Oloyede Ashanke reigned for ten glorious years between 1983 and 1993. His reign is remembered not only for peace and development but also for his unique humor and accessibility. He was a king without stiffness, a monarch who dissolved the burden of protocol and made his palace a home for all._

_*Ashanke’s humor became legendary, filling Ibadan with laughter that still echoes today:*_

_1. The Oyetan Title: After bestowing numerous chieftaincy titles, his aides told him, “Kabiyesi, Oye ti tan” (the titles are finished). With characteristic wit, Baba replied, “Oye tan itself is a title!” and immediately conferred the Oyetan of Ibadanland on an Igbo businessman._

_*2. Bashorun to MKO Abiola: When he honored Chief M.K.O. Abiola with the revered title of Bashorun, critics protested. Ashanke silenced them with a political quip: “Anyone who can defeat MKO in the war of politics shall be made Bashorun.”*_

_3. Ibadan’s Love for Strangers: Ashanke appointed a Lebanese, Chief I. Mudah, as Babalaje of Ibadan, embodying the spirit of Ibadan’s hospitality: “Ibadan gba oni’le, o gba alejo” (Ibadan accepts both indigenes and strangers)._

_*4. “Alao mi ò sí nílé”: When the landline phone rang, Ashanke answered, mishearing “Hello” as “Alao” (his son’s name). He responded, “Alao mi ò sí nílé” (My Alao is not at home). The city laughed for years.*_

_5. Cake or Akara: At a ceremony, when cake was served, Baba mistook it for akara and told his colleagues, “Don’t finish the cake o, they will soon bring pap.”_

_*Ashanke’s reign was filled with warmth, spontaneity, and laughter, a reminder that leadership is not only about authority but also about humanity.*_

_Oba Ladoja: The Monarch of Prosperity and Politics._

_*If Ashanke embodied humor, Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja embodies prosperity and humane governance. A successful businessman in shipbuilding and oil, Ladoja became Governor of Oyo State and left an indelible mark.*_

_He introduced the 13th-month salary, easing the lives of civil servants._

_*He championed road construction projects, opening up Ibadan’s arteries for modern development.*_

_He remains one of the most accessible and humane leaders, respected for combining wealth, governance, and humility._

_*Today, as Olubadan, Ladoja is celebrated not only for his royal crown but for his history of service, philanthropy, and political relevance.*_

_Other Monarchs of Note._

_*Ibadan’s royal history also salutes illustrious monarchs such as Oba Akinyele, Oba Emmanuel Opeinde, Oba Emmanuel Odugade Odulana, Oba Aje Ogunguniso (who courageously resisted political tampering with the Ibadan chieftaincy system during Ajimobi’s era), and now Oba Olakulehin, who carries the mantle with dignity.*_

_The Genius of Ibadan Chieftaincy._

_*Unlike many traditional systems corrupted by wealth, politics, or favoritism, the Ibadan succession system is a masterpiece of cultural order. Guided by Ifa divination and structured hierarchy, once a king joins his ancestors, the next in line ascends—no lobbying, no wealth, no politics. In Ibadan, kingship is not bought; it is earned by patience, tradition, and destiny.*_

_As the saying goes:_
_“Tí Ọba bá ti sùn, Ọba mìíràn á jí.”_
_(When one king sleeps, another awakens.)_

_Ibadan Yàtò, Ibadan Ṣe Bẹ́bẹ́._

_*Ibadan is different. Ibadan is unique. From Ashanke’s laughter to Ladoja’s prosperity, the city continues to prove that leadership is not only about crowns but about character, community, and continuity.*_

_*TOMORROW, (26TH SEPT 2025) IBADAN WILL WITNESS THE 44TH OLUBADAN'S INSTALLATION.*_

LAGOS WELCOMES FOUR NEWLY APPROVED PARAMOUNT TRADITIONAL WHITE CAP CHIEFS

In a historic moment for Isale Eko and Lagos at large, four distinguished sons of Lagos have been officially approved and gazetted as Paramount Traditional White Cap Chiefs of Lagos. Their appointments signal not just continuity of tradition, but also the dawn of a progressive and dynamic era for the Lagos traditional institution. The newly gazetted Chiefs are:

Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki – Ogboni Iduntafa of Lagos (Akarigbere Royal Class)

Engr. Ajibade Ismail Nosiru Ayeni – Eletu Odibo of Lagos (Head of Akarigbere Royal Class)

Chief Adebola Olalekan Dosunmu – Olorogun Adodo of Lagos (Akarigbere Royal Class)

Chief Lookman Bolaji Oluwa – Onisemo of Lagos (Ogalade Class of Chiefs)

Their ascension to these revered positions reflects the wisdom of His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa (Oba) Riliwan Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos, whose leadership continues to safeguard and strengthen the cultural, historical, and spiritual heritage of Lagos. The Lagos State Government equally deserves commendation for formalising these appointments, thereby preserving and enriching the identity of Isale Eko and Lagos Island for future generations.

Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki (Ogboni Iduntafa of Lagos):

Arc. Gbolahan Oki, a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (FNIA), brings over 30 years of professional and administrative experience into his new traditional role. Currently serving as the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Urban Development, he is celebrated for his integrity, leadership, and resilience.

A graduate of the University of Jos, where he earned both his degree and Master’s in Architecture, Arc. Oki’s career spans various senior roles, including General Manager of LASBCA and Chief Resilience Officer for Lagos State. His wealth of technical knowledge, coupled with his administrative acumen, positions him to drive developmental initiatives in Isale Eko while upholding the dignity of the Ogboni Iduntafa stool.

Engr. Ajibade Ismail Nosiru Ayeni (Eletu Odibo of Lagos):

The new Eletu Odibo of Lagos, Engr. Ayeni, popularly known as Omobalufon assumes the historic responsibility of Head of the Akarigbere Royal Class and Traditional Prime Minister to the Oba of Lagos. He is a man of vision, intellect, and deep grassroots connection.

A graduate of Lagos State University (LASU) with a Second Class Upper Division in Electronics/Computer Engineering, he further obtained a Master of Science Degree in Mobile Computing & Communications from the University of Greenwich, UK, in 2010 and an MBA, Master of Business Administration from the National Open University of Nigeria. He is also a Doctoral Fellow of the Institute of Leadership, Manpower Management and Development.

Engr. Ayeni’s career has spanned both the private and public sectors. From his early days at Access Bank Plc to his current role as State Coordinator, Lagos Central at NIMC, he has consistently distinguished himself as a professional of excellence. A Microsoft Certified IT Professional, Project Management Certified expert, and member of the British Computer Society, he embodies the modern blend of technology, governance, and tradition.

A respected grassroots politician, Engr. Ayeni is also an Apex member of the Atari Ajanaku Caucus under the APC in Lagos Island, making him a strong bridge between tradition, governance, and community representation.

Chief Adebola Olalekan Dosunmu (Olorogun Adodo of Lagos):

Chief Adebola Dosunmu, popularly known as the Akinsiku of Lagos, is a household name in Lagos traditional and social circles. As the Supreme Head of the Adamu Orisha Play (Olori Eyo), he has been a custodian of one of Lagos’ most celebrated cultural festivals, thereby protecting the identity and values of the people of Isale Eko.

He is also the CEO of Utica Integrated Services, a thriving real estate and property consultancy. With his training in Peace Resolution and Conflict Management in the USA, Chief Dosunmu has developed a reputation as a bridge-builder and community man.

His social influence, closeness with Lagos traditional rulers, and his grassroots orientation make him uniquely positioned to advance the role of the Olorogun Adodo in the preservation of Isale Eko’s traditions and the promotion of communal unity.

Chief Lookman Bolaji Oluwa (Onisemo of Lagos):

A proud son of Isale Eko, Chief Lookman Oluwa began his education at St. Paul Primary School before proceeding to Isale Eko Grammar School. He later studied at Lagos State University before relocating to the United States of America, where he established a successful career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Chief Oluwa’s story is one of determination and service. His exposure abroad has broadened his worldview, and his return to take on the revered Onisemo stool highlights his loyalty to his heritage and commitment to the cultural sustainability of Lagos. As a man of character and wisdom, his reign promises to strengthen the Ogalade Class and bring development to Isale Eko.

A NEW DAWN FOR ISALE EKO AND LAGOS

The appointment and gazetting of these four illustrious sons of Lagos reflect a strong commitment to preserving the heritage of the land while embracing the potentials of youthful innovation and leadership. They are men of proven integrity, intellect, and honour with qualities that will enrich the traditional institution of Lagos.

Their profiles demonstrate that tradition and modernity can work hand-in-hand. From architecture and engineering to governance, culture, and social influence, the new White Cap Chiefs represent a rare blend of wisdom, professionalism, and dedication to service.

Press Release

IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION OF ALL RECLAMATION PROJECTS ACROSS THE STATE WITH OR WITHOUT EIA AND DRAINAGE CLEARANCE

The Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MOE&WR) has observed with grave concern the proliferation of reclamation activities on Wetlands, Floodplains and the Lagoons across the State, particularly around Parkview, Banana Island, Osborne and other parts of Ikoyi, Victoria Island Extension, Lekki, Ajah, Oworonshoki, Lagos Mainland, Ikorodu, Ojo and Badagry axis, without consideration of the adverse Impacts on the Environment and the Wellbeing and Safety of the good people of the State.

These indiscriminate Reclamation projects are being executed without requisite Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Approvals and Drainage Clearance from this Ministry.

While reclamation may provide space for Housing and Infrastructure development, it also poses significant Environmental and Social risks including increased vulnerability to flooding, coastal erosion, disruption of livelihood (especially fishing), loss of wetlands and biodiversity, constriction of the Lagoons and their capacity, impairment of water quality amongst others.

With the low-lying topography of the State and its fragile ecosystem, the State Government cannot afford to allow this indiscriminate reclamation of the Lagoons, Wetlands and floodplains to continue unabated.

Consequently, the Ministry is by this Notice directing all Reclamation Projects across the State with or without EIA approval and Drainage Clearance to be SUSPENDED IMMEDIATELY.

All approved Reclamation Projects across the State must be submitted for proper
Documentation and Monitoring, while all on-going and intending ones must be subjected to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process with issuance of Approval Letter and Drainage Clearance from the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.

Failure to comply with this directive within the next 7 DAYS after this publication shall leave the Ministry with no other option than to deploy APPROPRIATE machineries to decommission the reclaimed sites including excavation and removal of fill, reconnecting of already blocked water channels on the Lagoon and the arrest and prosecution of anyone involved and or found on the site of the illegality.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Signed:

Mr Tokunbo Wahab
Honourable Commissioner,
Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources,
Lagos State

*Making it Big; Double Check the Character of your employee*

Femi Otedola mentioned how he made recruitment mistakes in his companies particularly when recruiting based on recommendations from people.

He wrote about some of them whom he recruited based on recommendation:

"I once had a senior executive who came highly recommended. I gave him a new car. The day after he got the car, he started misbehaving."

"He was chasing women and relaxing in my sitting room, as if he were on a boot cruise. I asked him to go."

"I also had an employee who was too forward. Anytime we visited my billionaire friends, he would be the first before the rest of us."

"One manager I hired came for the interview on a motorbike taxi. I did not do much due diligence before giving him the job, because I respected the person who'd recommended him."

"A car came with the job, and shortly after that, I was looking out my office window when he drove in."

"Someone opened the door for him, another held his jacket, and yet another person carried his bag. He strolled majestically, just two weeks into the job. That is what power, or a twisted sense of it, can do to people."

I think these are clear cases we can learn something from. Some people are their own "village people." Nobody is after them more than their own pride and maybe, bad behaviour.

Maybe they just need small money and privileges to start misbehaving.

Our character is king.
