There aren't nearly enough good Christmas-themed anthologies. Thankfully, All The Creatures Were Stirring is a great one!

We’re basking in the afterglow of Christmas 2022 as we write this and we’re always happy to check out a holiday-themed anthology. However, having just watched an absolute stinker in Tales from the Other Side and being so full of chocolate that we fear our feet might fall off, we weren’t expect...

Another day, another horror anthology. Tales from the Other Side (2022) actually has the worst portmanteau segment we've ever seen. It's really THAT bad.

Tales from the Other Side is a 2022 horror anthology that pulls together six separate ‘scary’ stories as well as providing a substantial wraparound tale too. That’s good news as at least it gives this portmanteau a little consistency which it’d otherwise lack as this does have the feel of ju...

Look. We know it's the dullest topic in cinema and we don't really care if it's a Christmas film or not. But we love it and want to big it up.

Die Hard is a special film for me. It was the first 18-rated movie I ever saw in the cinema (I was 13 and entirely blown away by the action). Since then, the series has had its ups and downs. Die Hard 2 is okay but a little forgettable, Die Hard With a Vengeance is […]

We've updated our Ultimate Guide to Horror Anthologies. Now split into five tiers to tell you what to seek out and what to avoid. Monster Club. Avoid Monster Club.

We'll be adding more to the list but what ones do you want to see on there?

http://www.the80smovieclub.co.uk/t8mc-guide-portmanteau-films/

You may have noticed that occasionally we like to break our Eighties remit here at T8MC and usually that’ll be when there’s a portmanteau film that needs to be watched. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, a portmanteau film is one of those movies that is comprised of individual stories or segm...

Bio readouts are all in the green. We've updated our Aliens article for no good reason. It's been a while since T8MC posted but maybe we bloody should.

http://www.the80smovieclub.co.uk/ten-reasons-why-aliens-is-the-best-film-ever-made/

Despite owning Aliens multiple times (ex-rental VHS, retail VHS, DVD boxsets, Blu-ray Anthology), I ended up watching it over the weekend because it was on television. The the thing is that, much like Big Trouble in Little China, when it starts you can’t look away. Even if it means enduring E4’s...

We're all about those '80s hitters but we can spare a little bit of love for '70s cinema. Here is our top ten. We expect conflict.

Yes, we know we left out Jaws.

What are your '70s favourites though?

http://www.the80smovieclub.co.uk/t8mcs-favourite-70s-films/

While all the cool kids know that the ’80s is the best decade for movies, it would be remiss of us to not throw some love at the ’70s. Sure, it was the worst decade. Full of prog and glam rock, racist TV sitcoms, shamed radio DJs and it was the decade where we lost […]

We've been quiet for a while but we're back with ten reasons to watch Best of the Best (1989). It's one of the best fight flicks of the '80s and it features Eric Roberts at the peak of his powers.

We love it and you should too.

http://www.the80smovieclub.co.uk/ten-reasons-why-you-need-to-watch-best-of-the-best-1989/

The ’80s has to be the golden age for fight flicks. Sure, the hardcore will go on about the kung fu films of the ’70s (and to be fair Enter The Dragon will always be the greatest fighting film of all time) and they still make all those post-Crouching Tiger wire-work films which are still …

We checked out a modern portmanteau. The Field Guide to Evil (terrible title) is a 2018 eight-part horror anthology that focuses on folklore and urban legends from around the world. Five of the stories are absolute bobbins, two are good and one is legitimately great.

http://www.the80smovieclub.co.uk/portmanteau-a-go-go-35-the-field-guide-to-evil-2018/

This curious compilation of global horror shorts features eight stories each from different directors but produced by Tim League and Ant Timpson, the producers of The ABCs of Death. While there is no linking story on offer here but, unusually for a horror anthology, the stories are thematically link...

We updated our review of Annihilator, a 1986 sci-fi horror that is better than at least three of the Terminator films combined. If you love robots, Catherine Mary Stewart and robots tearing off their arms and flinging them at people then this is the movie for you. http://www.the80smovieclub.co.uk/the-annihilator-1986-full-movie/

This one is a real treat for fans of horror, sci-fi and the most B of movies. Annihilator was a TV movie that showed up in 1986 to very little acclaim. This might be because it shamelessly ripped off The Terminator (it even includes Earl Boen who played Dr Silberman in that film) but if …

“Karate Kid 3 is better than the first one? Shut the hell up, The ’80s Movie Club!” We’re not kidding. Karate Kid 3 is amazing and until recently was the best thing in the series. The wonderful, magnificent and utterly perfect Cobra Kai TV series has since taken the prize and if you’ve not...

That's right, we are making up for lost time with another horror anthology review. This one is All Hallow's Eve (2013) which would be terrible if you were just looking at the short stories in it but is elevated by a decent linking story.

http://www.the80smovieclub.co.uk/portmanteau-a-go-go-31-all-hallows-eve/

All Hallow’s Eve is a 2013 anthology that is quite unusual in that all of it was written and directed by one person, Damien Leone, and while it is still a collection of shorts, having it one man behind it does give the film a little more consistency than the typical portmanteau. This is partly …

We've covered a lot of horror anthologies (thirty in fact) but the second tale in this one is the scariest one ever.

http://www.the80smovieclub.co.uk/portmanteau-a-go-go-30-a-night-of-horror-volume-1/

This collection of Australian horror tales is very much a modern portmanteau in that it has wildly varying themes and a lot of stories to tell. Each tale has a different director who were all tasked with submitting a short that had a ‘blood’ theme. That’s not a very narrow remit, so A Night of...

It is important to remember the true meaning of Christmas. And that is that you must watch Trading Places.

http://www.the80smovieclub.co.uk/ten-reasons-trading-places-best-film-ever-made/

The early ’80s truly belonged to Eddie Murphy, an on-fire stand-up comedian who transferred from the stage to Hollywood and starred in several successful films that were obvious vehicles for him. Trading Places is a 1983 comedy that sees Murphy teaming up with fellow Saturday Night Live star Dan A...

Been a while since we reviewed anything and Zombthology made us wonder why we bother. http://www.the80smovieclub.co.uk/portmanteau-a-go-go-29-zombthology/

Zombthology is a three part horror anthology that was dumped into the genre back in 2008 and has somehow ended up on Amazon Instant Video. As the name suggests, the focus here is squarely on zombies but also on veteran scream queen Tiffany Shepis who features heavily in the film’s linking story. T...

Some classic Peter Vincent in today's Quote of the Day.

It’s not easy being someone who grew up in the ’80s having to see all the stuff that the kids are into these days, so we know exactly how Peter Vincent must have felt when he said this line during his meeting with Charlie Brewster in Fright Night 1985 (the best vampire movie ever). There …

Another horror anthology. Three of the most English stories ever and a wraparound tale set in America for some reason. It's mostly trash. And yes, that's David Van Day. Bloody hell.

http://www.the80smovieclub.co.uk/portmanteau-a-go-go-28-screamtime/

Screamtime is a 1983 horror anthology that combines three English shorts with an American wraparound story. It’s a bizarre combination that feels tacked on at first but there’s a little more to this portmanteau than you might initially think. I’ve actually got some history with this film. In 1984 I…

We took a look at the 2017 horror anthology Galaxy of Horrors. http://www.the80smovieclub.co.uk/portmanteau-a-go-go-27-galaxy-of-horrors/

Galaxy of Horrors is a 2017 horror anthology and is another portmanteau package curated from short movies previously presented as part of the Little Terrors Festival. It follows on from the subject of our previous Portmanteau-a-go-go, Minutes Past Midnight. Seemingly inspired heavily by Black Mirror...

http://www.the80smovieclub.co.uk/ten-reasons-why-repo-man-is-the-best-film-ever-made/

So, we’ve ran quite a few of these ‘best movie’ articles and in our hearts, they are all the best movie ever. Why pick when they are all equally strong and wonderful? It’s films like these that make us want to write about ‘80s movies in general. But if you put a gun to my …

Released in 1990 but filmed in the '80s, The Ambulance is a okay horror film that features Eric Roberts in absolutely spectacular form.

http://www.the80smovieclub.co.uk/the-ambulance-1990/

We’re stretching the rules for this one. Yes, The Ambulance was released in 1990 which puts it outside of our remit but it had a March release which means that it was filmed in the late ’80s. Good enough for us! It’s one of those films that we’ve been aware of but had never seen. …

We watched Student Bodies, a fun horror parody that was much better than we expected.

http://www.the80smovieclub.co.uk/student-bodies-1981/

Well, Student Bodies has been a real surprise. As much as T8MC is about going back and celebrating our favourite movies from the ’80s, we do love being surprised by a film we’ve never seen before. Student Bodies has been on my ‘to watch’ list for a while now and it is a horror comedy …

Any love for Lifeforce?

http://www.the80smovieclub.co.uk/lifeforce-1985/

The problem with using absolutely top drawer sci-fi/horror talent is that sometimes the vision can outstrip the practicality. Lifeforce is a great example of this. Written by Dan O’Bannon (the man you can thank for creating Alien) and directed by Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), the film com...

Our buddy Paul got to speak to his horror hero. Give this a read.

Whenever a great creative talent passes, there’s a tendency to lean on hyperbole when reflecting on their body of work. In the case of someone like George A. Romero, it’s virtually impossible to overstate their impact. Put simply, without Romero, the horror landscape we know and love today simply…

Do it. You know you want to!
This is a track titled "PHOTOGRAPHS" provided by of the band STEREO OFF. They contacted me about helping out with music for our film "48Z", now in the voting process for the Winter Film Awards 48 hour film challenge. When we got the theme of Zombie, I immediately knew I wanted something synth based, like John Carpenter and George Romero did for their films in the 80s. STEREO OFF also provided the base tracks for the score, that plays throughout the piece and I think adds something extra to the whole viewing experience. Make sure you go the link in our bio, watch AND like our film submission "48Z" on youtube (each YouTube like counts as a vote) and if you want to share, be sure to include that wfa hashtag (wfa48) and as well as the wfa website, winterfilmawards.com.
