The VJ Day flag lowering tonight in Perceval Square. With a moving speech by Councillor and Convenor of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Kenny Macleod and the pipes playing as the flag was lowered, it was a touching remembrance ceremony recognising freedom and the lives of those who fought for it.

The VJ Day flag raising ceremony took place tonight at Perceval Square. Donnie Maciver from the Royal British Legion raised the Union Jack flag, commemorating when Japan formally surrendered and marked an end to World War Two. The flag will be lowered tomorrow at a 6pm ceremony.

We recently received a wonderful donation of £1672 which was raised at an Evening of Gaelic Music held in memory of Alma Kerr Jamieson. Alma was a supporter of the RNLI and mother to crew member Rodney 'Cheggs' Jamieson. The picture below shows Cheggs & Don Smith receiving the donation from the concert organisers, Torquil Macleod and Carole Miller.
