Man jailed for brutal attack on Jack Russell caught on CCTV 🐕⚖️

An 18-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 weeks in prison after CCTV footage captured him repeatedly hitting and dropping a Jack Russell Terrier named Casper.

Cameron Lee Wilson from Swansea was seen attacking the one-year-old dog, who was not his own pet, on Pentrepoeth Road, Morriston on 16 March. The shocking footage shows Wilson dropping Casper from chest height onto concrete, striking him multiple times, and chasing after him as he fled.

Wilson, of Holly Oak Road, Penllergaer, Swansea, appeared at Swansea Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 9 July after pleading guilty to one offence under the Animal Welfare Act.

In a written statement, a vet described the horrific attack: "He then releases the dog who cowers flat to the ground as he then, with wide swings of both arms alternately, strikes the dog seven times to the head area with enough force to move the whole dog across the ground from side to side."

The vet continued: "The male also, whilst walking, lifts the dog horizontally with his back to the ground and drops him from chest height onto a flat concrete floor, the dog lands on his belly from that height."

The veterinary expert concluded: "In my professional opinion the dog has been struck multiple times, deliberately with force, each blow causing pain and suffering. The deliberate drop from height onto a concrete floor will also have caused pain and suffering to the dog."

Wilson was sentenced to 18 weeks of custody and disqualified from keeping all animals for 10 years. He was also ordered to pay £400 costs. The court heard that he showed remorse and was willing to work with agencies.

Fortunately, Casper did not suffer any injuries as a result of the incident.

Following sentencing, investigating officer RSPCA DCI Cooper said: "Thankfully when I met Casper he was uninjured and was with his owner - who was not Wilson. However, it is clear that Casper suffered through this attack and had to endure unnecessary deliberate harm. Every animal deserves to be treated with kindness and ill treating an animal is not acceptable."

Kayakers' Amazing Dolphin Encounter Off Aberavon Coast

Three kayakers got the surprise of their lives when a pod of dolphins swam right up to them off the coast of Aberavon on Saturday! 🐬

Jamie Rigdon was training with his brother Carl Rice and friend Kieran Ladkoo about three miles from Port Talbot beach when the magical moment happened on the hottest day of the year in Wales.

"We saw them in the distance and then they disappeared and then we saw them again and they started to get closer and closer," Jamie said. "It was a sizeable pod and they stayed around us for a good couple of minutes swimming below us and in between us. It was incredible. A beautiful day for it as well."

The encounter was particularly special as dolphins are rarely spotted in south Wales waters, unlike the west Wales coast where bottlenose dolphins are commonly seen near Cardigan Bay.

"They stayed around us for a couple of minutes. I couldn't believe my eyes. I've lived here all my life and have never known of dolphins in the sea here," Jamie added.

The brothers were training for an incredible fundraising challenge - kayaking across the English Channel from Rye Harbour to the French coast in memory of their late father who had dementia. 💙

"There's a local charity in Port Talbot called Me Myself and I and they looked after my father," Jamie said. "They're a charity which helps people with dementia and they're incredible. They also looked after my brother's mother-in-law. They've done a hell of a lot for our family so we wanted to give something back to them."

The team has already raised more than £1,000 for the charity. You can support their fundraiser here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/remember-2-paddle

Mechanic Banned After Instagram Video Shows Him Doing Doughnuts Around Pedestrians

A mechanic has been banned from driving after police identified him from an Instagram video showing him performing dangerous doughnuts around pedestrians at a car meet 🚗💨

Harry Aufiero was filmed drifting around two people in a BMW at Langland Park Industrial Estate in Newport on July 7 last year, with number plates removed to hide driver identities.

An off-duty police officer spotted the video two days later on Instagram, recognising the industrial estate where police had been called to "a large car meet." The video tagged account '.driftz', leading officers to identify the BMW's number plate from other posts.

The 20-year-old from Hyde Lane in Ecchinswell, Hampshire, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at Newport Crown Court.

"He fully accepts responsibility for his driving," said Alice Sykes, appearing for Aufiero. "He was fully aware he was driving dangerously and fully aware his decision making could have resulted in serious injury to others."

The qualified mechanic's interim disqualification had already impacted his work, the court heard. Ms Sykes added he was remorseful and had "a realistic prospect of being rehabilitated."

"He is still only 20 years old," she said. "His immaturity clearly has a bearing on his decision making."

Judge Celia Hughes said: "It clearly was a highly dangerous manoeuvre. You could have caused injury or damage by driving so stupidly. I agree that posting that on Instagram was glamourising that behaviour."

Aufiero received a 12-month community order requiring 150 hours of unpaid work and 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days. He was banned from driving for 12 months, must complete an extended re-test to regain his licence, and was ordered to pay £1,000 in court costs.

Blackwood Man Jailed for Lying to Police About Speeding Offences

A Blackwood man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after lying to police five times about who was driving his speeding car, falsely blaming his ex-girlfriend and a friend living in Australia. 📱⚖️

Nathan Lee, 47, of Salway Avenue, Blackwood, was caught when cell site analysis revealed his phone was near his vehicle during one of the speeding incidents on 22nd April 2022.

Newport Crown Court heard that Lee's car was caught speeding on five separate occasions between 2018 and 2022. Each time, he provided false details claiming he wasn't the driver.

One person he nominated was his ex-girlfriend - but letters were sent to an address where she wasn't living. When police tracked her down, she denied all knowledge of the speeding incidents.

Lee also nominated a childhood friend, but when police made inquiries, they discovered he was living in Australia. When a third person was nominated, it raised police suspicions and triggered the investigation.

Even after being interviewed in May 2023, Lee continued to deny he was the driver during any of the offences.

The court heard Lee has no previous convictions and works as an electrical and chemical engineer. His barrister Matthew Comer said Lee helps care for his partner and his father, who has vascular dementia and cancer.

Judge Carl Harrison said deterrent sentences are important in such cases, adding: "Perverting the course of justice is a serious offence and it almost always results in a prison sentence. Offences such as these strike at the heart of the criminal justice system."

Lee was also disqualified from driving for 12 months upon his release from prison.

Pa******le Who Worked at Church Jailed for Sexual Abuse of 13-Year-Old Girl 💻⚖️

A 61-year-old man who worked at a church has been sentenced to four years and four months in prison for s*xually abusing a 13-year-old girl over we**am.

Anthony Arr, of Laburnum Avenue, Skegness, Lincolnshire, began talking to the teenager on social media, describing her as "beautiful" despite acknowledging the age difference was inappropriate.

Newport Crown Court heard the abuse escalated to we**am conversations where Arr instructed the victim to strip and perform s*xual acts whilst he masturbated. He used code phrases like "Are you seeing me? You clear?" to ensure she was alone.

The court heard Arr told the victim: "Don't worry, when we do have s*x you won't be able to get pregnant, I've had the snip."

The abuse continued for six months between 2am and 5am to avoid detection. Arr eventually blocked the victim, telling her to contact him when she turned 18.

When arrested a decade later, Arr claimed to police he and the victim were "boyfriend and girlfriend" and had "planned to run away together" when she turned 16.

The victim's impact statement revealed the devastating consequences: "This incident hugely impacted my learning and I was unable to finish my education. Children found out about what happened and started to bully me. They said I liked older men which was something I struggled to deal with."

She described years of depression, anxiety, and drug problems, adding: "I have spent so many nights crying myself to sleep... I was diagnosed with psychosis in 2020."

The victim concluded: "I am grateful this is being dealt with appropriately by the justice system but I fear the impact from Anthony Arr will affect me for the rest of my life."

Judge Carl Harrison told Arr during sentencing: "You should be thoroughly ashamed of the damage you have caused."

Arr pleaded guilty to two counts of causing/inciting a child to engage in s*xual activity and two counts of engaging in s*xual activity in the presence of a child. He was also made subject to s*x offender notification requirements and a restraining order.

Masseuse Thought She Would Die as Client Attacked Her With Hammer

A brave masseuse fought for her life when a client launched a vicious hammer attack at her Cardiff business.

Connor Probert, 26, from Penygraig, Tonypandy, booked a massage at Royal Orchid Thai Massage in Cardiff on February 17 last year, arriving with a hammer concealed in his backpack.

Orawan Thomas was alone at the parlour when Probert launched his unprovoked assault. Cardiff Crown Court heard the massage passed without incident, but when Ms Thomas turned her back, Probert grabbed her from behind and struck her head with the hammer.

Ms Thomas saw Probert holding the weapon "raised at shoulder level as if he was ready to strike again" and thought she was going to be killed. The attack continued as she struggled and screamed, with Probert then strangling her until she nearly lost consciousness.

"She described everything going black and thought she was dead," prosecutor Thomas Stanway told the court.

The victim cleverly asked for water, causing Probert to release his grip momentarily. When her son and daughter-in-law arrived, she managed to escape whilst Probert hid in the bathroom until police arrived.

Ms Thomas suffered three head wounds requiring stitches and soft tissue injuries to her neck and hands.

In her victim statement, Ms Thomas said: "I genuinely believed he was going to kill me and feared for my life for the duration of the time I was in that room... I am scared to go out alone and being alone in general. The anxiety this has caused me makes me feel in fear. I feel like someone is always following me because I was attacked from behind and now I am checking over my shoulder to check if anyone is there."

She added: "I believed this man wanted to kill me, I don't think he wanted to take my belongings or harm me s*xually. He spent 20 minutes torturing me mentally and physically. I believe it was a pre-meditated attack and his only thought was to kill me."

Probert pleaded guilty to wounding and inflicting grievous bodily harm, intentional strangulation, and possession of an offensive weapon. When asked why he carried out the attack, he said he couldn't explain his actions and was shocked by them.

Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke, the Recorder of Cardiff, noted that whilst Probert had been diagnosed with autism, this did not play a part in his offending. She said: "You are devoid of any victim empathy and you said you couldn't be sure an incident to this type wouldn't happen again."

Probert was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of four years and two months, minus time served on remand. He was also made subject to a lifelong restraining order.

Newport Driver Jailed After Eight-Hour Drinking Binge Leads to Serious Bus Stop Crash

A Newport man who spent eight hours drinking before getting behind the wheel has been jailed after seriously injuring an elderly woman when he mounted the pavement and crashed into a bus stop.

Kelsey Kent, 30, of Swallow Way in Dyffryn, had been drinking since early afternoon on 24th August last year, Newport Crown Court heard. CCTV footage showed him driving between pubs, consuming at least five pints and beers throughout the day.

Prosecutor Ieuan Bennett told the court Kent was "unsteady on his feet" when he left the final pub at around 10pm. Driving at "about 40mph" in a 20mph zone, Kent drifted across the road after a slight bend and drove along the pavement for "many many yards" before the collision.

The victim, a woman in her eighties who had been waiting at the bus stop after an evening at Risca Workmen's Club, was "thrown up in the air" by the impact. She "wouldn't have known what was coming," Mr Bennett said.

The woman suffered serious leg injuries requiring emergency skin graft surgery at Morriston Hospital, head injuries, facial bruising, muscle damage to her arm, and foot misalignment requiring a medical boot. The bus stop was completely destroyed.

In a victim statement, she said: "The incident always now plays on my mind. I have nightmares about the incident. I feel weak and broken. I don't think I realise how lucky I am to be alive."

Kent remained at the scene and recorded 193 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood - more than twice the legal limit of 80mg.

Defence barrister Martha Smith-Higgins said: "Nothing I say on behalf of Mr Kent can undo what he did that day. He knows he must face the consequences. This offending has been a wake-up call for him."

The court heard Kent had voluntarily started attending weekly sessions to address his drinking and it "broke his heart" to hear the impact on the victim.

Judge Celia Hughes said: "You had been drinking for many hours in the day when you made that decision to drive that night." She added it was "a wonder" the victim wasn't killed.

Kent pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drink-driving. He was jailed for two years and 10 months, banned from driving for 41 months, and must pass an extended re-test to regain his licence.

Drug Dealers Caught Red-handed Near Primary School with 100 Wraps

Two young he**in and co***ne dealers have been jailed after being caught operating near Hafod Primary School in Swansea with a total of 100 individual drug deals 💊⚖️

Jayley Rickman, 21, from Weston-super-Mare, and Harry Thompson, 18, from Swansea, were spotted by members of the public on the steps leading from Odo Street to Cwm Road on 19th June. Plain-clothed officers from the organised crime team swooped on the pair in an unmarked car.

Rickman was found with three co***ne deals in his hand and a bag containing 37 wraps of he**in and co***ne beside him on the steps. He also had a lock-knife and £70 in cash. Thompson, who tried to run but was chased and caught, was carrying a Nokia burner phone and a coffee jar down his shorts containing 60 individual wraps of he**in and co***ne.

The Nokia had been sending bulk text messages to around 40 contacts, including one saying: "Three for 25 all day" - sent shortly before police arrived. A "dealer's list" in the phone's notes showed one person owing £1,650.

Rickman was already on licence from a 45-month sentence for dealing crack and he**in in Weston-super-Mare and had been recalled to prison in November 2024. His whereabouts were unknown until his arrest in Swansea. Thompson was on bail to Gwent Police for suspected involvement in supplying ketamine and he**in.

Judge Paul Thomas KC at Swansea Crown Court told them: "When you involved yourselves in dealing co***ne and he**in you would have known what kind of sentence awaited them."

Andrew Evans, defending Rickman, said his client was "dogged by the events of his past" and people who had previously supplied drugs to him on credit "came after him" to recover the debt.

Alexandra Wilson, defending Thompson, said her client was homeless at the time of his arrest following a breakdown of his relationship with his mother.

Rickman was sentenced to four years and four months in prison, to be served concurrently with his recall period. Thompson received two years and four months detention in a young offenders institution. Both will serve half their sentences in custody before being released on licence.

Neo Maguire jailed for drug-driving despite never passing test 🚗

A man who never passed his driving test has been jailed for 30 weeks after being caught drug-driving at nearly five times the legal limit in Caerphilly.

Newport Crown Court heard witnesses saw Neo Maguire "struggling to stand up" as he staggered towards his Ford Ka in Trethomas on 16th November. Within minutes, police located Maguire – who was driving "erratically" – and he turned into a dead-end road.

Maguire tried to flee on foot, leaving his passenger in the car, but was tackled to the ground by an officer. Blood tests revealed he had 240 micrograms of benzoylecgonine per litre of blood – nearly five times the 50µg/L limit.

Weeks later on 12th January, police found Maguire asleep in a car with the engine running on Nantgarw Road. When he eventually woke up, he was slurring his words and couldn't get out of the car. He refused a drugs test, telling officers: "I don't care. I'm f***** anyway."

The 24-year-old from Keble Court, Graig-Y-Rhacca, pleaded guilty to multiple offences including driving whilst disqualified, drug-driving, and driving without insurance. He had three previous convictions including dangerous driving in 2021 and 2024.

His defence lawyer Alice Sykes said: "He's pragmatic about his position. His relatively young life has been blighted by alcoholism."

Judge Carl Harrison told Maguire: "Within only five months of that sentence, you committed more driving offences."
