GoFundMe Investigation Clears Violet Makunike - Simbarashe Fundraiser : Stephen Buzhu (Saint TV) lies exposed .

Those Responsible for Malicious Lies to Face the Law.

24 February 2026.

Truth has prevailed following a thorough and independent review process conducted by GoFundMe.

On 24 February 2026, the GoFundMe fundraising page established for the medical care of Simbarashe was formally cleared after a rigorous review by GoFundMe’s Trust and Safety Team.

The review followed a smear campaign initiated by Saint TV, operated by Stephen Buzhu, in which false allegations were made that the fundraiser was fraudulent and that funds had been misappropriated by Violet Makunike.

Background to the Review:

On 05 February 2026, GoFundMe contacted the fundraiser after receiving reports alleging misuse of funds. These allegations claimed that:

-The fundraising appeal was fraudulent.

-All funds had been exhausted or misused.

-Violet Makunike had used the funds to build a personal residence.

-The beneficiary had not received surgery due to alleged financial mismanagement.

These allegations were entirely false, malicious, and without any factual foundation.

The Investigation Process:
The review process commenced on 05 February 2026 and concluded on 24 February 2026, spanning nearly three weeks.

During this period, GoFundMe requested comprehensive financial documentation and supporting evidence. In full cooperation, the fundraiser provided:

-Over 120 pieces of documentary evidence
-Detailed financial records dating back to January 2019
-Bank statements
-Receipts and invoices
-Proof of payments, including travel, fuel, and medical-related expenses.
-Correspondence and additional supporting documentation.

All requested information was submitted transparently, comprehensively, and without delay.

Outcome of the Review:

On 24 February 2026, GoFundMe confirmed that:

-The review was complete.

-All spending aligned with the stated purpose of the fundraiser.

-No funds had been misappropriated.

-The fundraiser remained compliant and in good standing.

The fundraising page was cleared with no issues.

Significance of the Outcome:

This outcome conclusively disproves the allegations made by Stephen Buzhu and his associates.

The fundraiser, established in 2019, continues to retain funds in its account, supported by detailed and consistent financial records demonstrating responsible stewardship.

The claims that funds were “finished” or used to build a private residence have been exposed as entirely baseless fabrications, with no credible evidence ever produced.

This independent verification significantly strengthens HFZC’s position in the ongoing defamation proceedings.

How the Smear Campaign Unfolded:

On 05 February 2026, Stephen Buzhu, through Saint TV, contacted Violet Makunike via WhatsApp message and subsequently via a call.

During the conversation, Stephen proposed collaboration to raise funds for Simbarashe. Violet welcomed publicity support but made it clear that an established GoFundMe fundraiser was already in place.

Stephen requested that both his phone number and Violet’s number be published on the Saint TV Facebook platform to solicit direct donations outside the GoFundMe structure.

Violet declined, insisting that all support be directed through the existing GoFundMe platform to ensure transparency and accountability.

The discussion became tense when she resisted what she perceived as controlling and inappropriate demands. Shortly thereafter, Stephen Buzhu terminated the call.

Within hours, Saint TV began publishing allegations claiming:

-That all GoFundMe funds had been misappropriated.

-That the funds were the reason surgery had not occurred
That Violet had built a personal residence using charitable funds.

These claims triggered widespread online backlash from individuals who relied on the Saint TV narrative without independent verification.

Notably, Violet Makunike had no prior relationship with Stephen Buzhu before 05 February 2026.

Violet Makunike’s
Position:

Violet Makunike, affectionately known as “Tete Vee” or “Sisi Vee,” has been engaged in humanitarian and charitable work since 2005.
She welcomes the outcome of the GoFundMe review as clear and independent confirmation of her longstanding commitment to:
-Integrity
-Transparency
-Accountability.

Next Steps:

Following the malicious smear campaign and sustained cyber harassment, legal action is now being pursued against those responsible for publishing and disseminating defamatory falsehoods.

The outcome of the GoFundMe Trust and Safety review stands as independent verification that:

-The fundraiser is legitimate.

-Funds have been properly managed.

-No misappropriation has occurred.

The allegations were false and malicious.

Conclusion:

Truth has prevailed through a thorough and independent verification process.
Those who chose to spread falsehoods, damage reputations, and undermine a humanitarian cause will now face the consequences under the law.

Congratulations are in order.

Saint TV Stephen Buzhu Hit with US$700,000 Defamation Claim

25 February 2026

A major defamation lawsuit has been formally initiated against Stephen Buzhu of Saint TV following legal action by Violet Makunike and Hope for Zimbabwe Children Trust through their legal representatives Gumbo and associates.

The claim arises from allegations reportedly made by Mr Buzhu asserting that Violet Makunike converted GoFundMe proceeds raised for Simbarashe Dande to personal use and used the funds to construct a private residence. The plaintiffs categorically deny these allegations and describe them as malicious, false, and gravely defamatory.

INDEPENDENT VERIFICATION:

On 05 February 2026 following reports arising from his publications, the GoFundMe Trust and Safety Team conducted the fundraiser and initiated an internal investigation. On 24 February 2026 the team concluded the formal investigation and confirmed that no wrongdoing had occurred. The campaign was found to be fully compliant and properly administered.

Despite this independent verification, Stephen Buzhu failed to retract his statements or issue an apology.

Instead, he continued to publish and amplify defamatory content, including:

1.Endorsing and repeating false claims from third parties;

2.Suggesting criminal conduct and the prospect of arrests;

3.Implying that medical treatment was being deliberately withheld;

4.Encouraging or engaging in coordinated harassment and cyberbullying;

5.Misrepresenting the role of others to undermine Ms Makunike’s contributions;

6.Issuing statements calculated to create fear, suspicion, and public alarm; and

7.Persisting with defamatory insinuations even after the campaign had been formally cleared.

This pattern of conduct constitutes a sustained and deliberate campaign of defamation, harassment, and misinformation.

The GoFundMe campaign was independently reviewed and unequivocally cleared of any wrongdoing , thus his continued publication of disproven allegations, in the face of verified findings, demonstrates a wilful disregard for the truth and reinforces a clear inference of malice.

The total damages being demanded amount to US$700,000, broken down as follows:

US$500,000 in favour of Hope for Zimbabwe Children Trust and

US$200,000 in favour of Violet Makunike personally.

Cease and Desist Letter – Formal Demands:

On 25 February 2026, the plaintiffs’ lawyer served a comprehensive Cease and Desist Letter upon Mr Buzhu outlining specific remedial demands.

The letter requires that Mr Buzhu:

-Immediately cease and desist from publishing or sharing any further defamatory material concerning the plaintiffs.

-Remove all offending videos, posts, and comments from all digital platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, and any other platform under his control.

-Publish a full, unconditional, and unequivocal public retraction and apology, with the same prominence as the original defamatory statements.

-Post the apology and retraction every morning for fourteen (14) consecutive days, without deleting any of the posts.

-Pin the apology and retraction for a continuous period of fourteen (14) days on the Facebook platform “Saint TV” and on every platform where the alleged defamatory statements were published.

Pay damages as follows:

US$200,000 is being claimed by Violet Makunike in her personal capacity for reputational harm, emotional distress, and damage to her professional standing.

US$500,000 is being claimed by Hope for Zimbabwe Children Trust for institutional reputational injury, loss of public trust and confidence, and financial prejudice.

10% collection commission on all claimed amounts.

Provide a written undertaking that he will refrain from any further defamatory or injurious statements concerning the plaintiffs.

The letter further states that failure to comply fully within the stipulated timeframe and demands will result in immediate legal proceedings without further notice.

The plaintiffs intend to seek:

The full claimed sums,
Aggravated damages,
and all other appropriate relief the court may deem just.

Legal Position:
The plaintiffs argue that the allegations amount to serious imputations of fraud and dishonesty.

Under Zimbabwean civil law, such statements — if false and published to third parties — constitute actionable defamation, particularly where they injure professional and institutional reputation.

Hope for Zimbabwe Children Trust maintains that its humanitarian operations depend on public trust and confidence, and that allegations of financial misconduct pose existential risks to charitable sustainability.

Awaiting Response:
As of publication, there has been no formal public response from Stephen Buzhu or Saint TV.

The matter is poised to proceed through the courts should the demands set out in the cease and desist letter not be fully satisfied within the prescribed period.

Content creator Stephen Buzhu of Saint TV slapped with US$700 000 Defamation lawsuit demand for spreding malicious lies.

Cease and Desist Served – Court Proceedings to Follow if Demands Not Met.

01 March 2026

Legal representatives acting for Violet Makunike and Hope for Zimbabwe Children Trust have formally served a cease and desist letter on Stephen Buzhu, the individual operating Saint TV, demanding damages totalling US$700,000.

The matter is not yet before the courts. However, legal practitioners have confirmed that formal court proceedings will be instituted without further notice should the demands set out in the letter not be fully satisfied within the stipulated timeframe.

*Statements Presented as Fact:*

The legal demand arises from public statements made by Mr Buzhu in which he asserted — and presented as factual — that Violet Makunike diverted GoFundMe proceeds raised for Simbarashe Dande to personal use and constructed a private residence using those funds.

These statements were not framed as opinion or inquiry. They were communicated as definitive claims.
Both Ms Makunike and Hope for Zimbabwe Children Trust categorically deny these assertions and maintain that they are false, defamatory, and severely damaging to personal and institutional reputation.

*GoFundMe Review and Clearance*

It is further stated that the fundraiser in question opened by Violet in her personal capacity underwent review by GoFundMe, including examination of financial documentation and expenditure records. Following that review, the fundraiser was cleared to continue operating.

The plaintiffs contend that the continued circulation of allegations in light of this review has caused significant reputational harm and undermined public confidence in charitable operations.

*Damages and Remedial Demands:*

The cease and desist letter demands:

-US$200,000 in personal damages in favour of Violet Makunike;

-US$500,000 in damages in favour of Hope for Zimbabwe Children Trust;

-Immediate removal of all offending videos, posts, and comments from all digital platforms;

-A full, unconditional, and unequivocal public retraction and apology, published with the same prominence as the original statements;

-A written undertaking to refrain from any further defamatory or injurious statements.

Failure to comply fully will result in immediate institution of civil proceedings seeking the above sums, aggravated damages, and legal costs.

*Accountability in the Digital Age:*

This matter is not solely about monetary damages. It is about accountability.
Public platforms and digital reach do not provide immunity from the consequences of serious factual accusations made against individuals and charitable institutions.

Content creation carries responsibility. Engagement, audience growth, and public support must never come at the expense of truth and due diligence.

Allegations of financial misconduct strike at the heart of public trust. When presented as fact, such claims can undermine humanitarian efforts, disrupt public confidence, and ultimately harm the vulnerable beneficiaries charities exist to serve.

This case therefore stands as a clear reminder:

-Digital influence does not replace evidence.

-Public assertion does not override legal standards.

-Statements presented as fact must be capable of proof.

-Reputations are not content. Charity work is not a battleground for unverified claims.

*Next Steps:*

Should the demands outlined in the cease and desist letter not be met within the prescribed timeframe, the matter will proceed to court, where the evidentiary basis of the statements will be tested in the proper legal forum.

No further substantive comment will be made at this stage in order to preserve the integrity of anticipated legal proceedings.

Fundraising target: US$235,656 – Mayo Clinic, USA

Dear kind well wishers.

We are helping to raise funds for Simbarashe Dande, an 11-year-old boy from rural Murehwa, Zimbabwe, who urgently needs a second, life-saving surgery.

Time is running out for Simbarashe. He is currently in Zimbabwe, living with his mother under extremely difficult circumstances, while battling an aggressive and devastating cancer

--------

About Simbarashe’s Condition

Simbarashe was diagnosed around 2017 with maxillofacial osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer affecting the facial bones. We began fundraising for him in 2019, when he was just 4 years old. Today, he is 11.

He currently presents with a massive tumour involving the entire maxilla, with obliteration of the right lateral nasal wall. The tumour has engulfed his mouth and nostril, leaving him in constant pain, and severely affecting his ability to eat, speak, and breathe.

The relentless growth of the tumour has distorted his face, nose, and eye, and his neck is now swollen. He lives every day in agony.

---------

Previous Treatment and Challenges

In 2019, Simbarashe underwent his first ablative surgery in South Africa, where part of the tumour was removed. Initially, he showed some improvement. However, the tumour later resurfaced and became even more aggressive, continuing to grow as he grows.

A second surgery in South Africa failed due to reconstructive limitations and poor prognosis in achieving clear surgical margins, following complications during the first operation.

Between 1 April 2019 and 11 July 2019, Simbarashe underwent 7 cycles of chemotherapy, but sadly there was no significant reduction in tumour size. MRI scans continued to confirm a locally aggressive tumour of the right maxilla, causing upper airway obstruction.

As a result, Simbarashe has been dependent on a long-term tracheostomy since 28 February 2019 to help him breathe.

Despite every effort made locally and regionally, his condition continues to worsen. He urgently needs a second, highly specialised surgery, which is not available in Zimbabwe or South Africa.

---------

Why We Are Fundraising

Simbarashe has been assessed by Mayo Clinic (USA), a world-leading medical institution capable of providing the specialised surgery he desperately needs.

The total estimated cost of treatment is US$235,656, broken down as follows:

Consultation with Dr. Moore – $510

Consultation with Dr. Price – $1,293

Maxillofacial services – $2,256

Maxillectomy surgery – $231,597

Total estimated cost: $235,656

Mayo Clinic requires full payment in advance before treatment can begin. International patients do not qualify for financial assistance, making fundraising the only hope for Simbarashe.

Simbarashe’s father, Thompson, passed away in 2019, shortly after Simbarashe’s first surgery. His mother, Maria, is now raising him alone and struggles daily to meet his complex medical needs.

Beyond surgery, Simbarashe also needs ongoing support for:

Food and nutrition

Medication and medical supplies

Clothing

School books

Toys and basic childhood needs
