It's no wonder our wonderful clients over at Forfusion won this year's SME Business of the Year at the NECC awards!

They recently tasked the Turps Film team to produce a client testimonial case study. This video highlights their work and systems in play at the state of the art Northumbria Care Academy at NSECH with appraisals from a number of the trust's employees.

Video is everywhere. Reels, promos, interviews… they’re all over our feeds. But those slick little videos you see? They don’t take our editor Dominic five minutes to throw together... and here’s why.

Logging & Organisation:
We’re often dealing with hours of footage (especially if Luke’s done the interviews - that one is thorough!). Everything gets logged, labelled, synced and sorted so not a single gem gets lost.

Assembly Edit:
Watching 2 hours of interviews takes 3–4 hours alone. We cut the waffle, the false starts, the long pauses and all the “erms”. Every usable clip is tagged and sorted so if a client asks, “Got more on that new product?” the answer is: yep, already bookmarked.

Narrative Edit:
This is the storytelling bit. It’s not just dropping in pretty B-roll. Every shot needs to support what’s being said. If someone’s raving about their revolutionary service, we’re not showing a corridor and a coffee mug. That’s filler. And we don’t do filler.

Tweaks & Amends:
We include three rounds in our contracts, but most clients only need one. (Dominic’s nickname? The One Edit Wonder Kid). Still, late feedback happens, and sometimes you’ve got to reshape things, that’s part of the job.

Sound Design:
You only notice sound when it’s bad. We clean, mix, layer music and make sure it all sits right.

Colour Grading:
Sometimes it’s a few hours, sometimes it’s three days. Matching shots, making skin tones pop, elevating the whole look. It’s more than slapping on a filter.

Graphics & Titles:
From quick captions to full-blown animations, this bit ranges from an hour to a whole separate stage of the project.

Final Checks & Export:
1–2 hours, or more if you need cut-downs for socials, subtitles or you’ve gone full 3D showstopper (our longest export render? 180 hours. Yes, really).

And remember.. this is just editing!

It doesn’t even cover scripting, storyboarding, filming or the 20 other things we do to get to this stage.

We had the recent pleasure shooting some fantastic testimonial content for our new clients at Forfusion to highlight the amazing services provided by their team and organisation.

You know Adam means business when he's donning his shorts and being creative with lighting.

Set-staging was in full force with Claire and Luke sat in quite a lot as our 'model' to check the set-ups on top of his usual director duties. Check out that cheesy grin!

HELLO MARCH!

Well we know we say it every month but crikey, last month was BUSY!

We've got a tonne of projects in the works from animations, product shoots and loads of interviews.

Here's some peeks from last week's shoot in Newcastle and Sunderland with Luke looking longingly at Adam, Claire ensuring Adam doesn't fall over on a trackback and some very nice on site feedback from our interviewee and her experience with Turps Film!

It might look warm and cosy in frame, but it was anything but shooting on a cold February day! Part of the job though, eh?

We had a cracking day filming some unreal product content. Final edit coming soon- it’s looking amazing!

We always welcome an opportunity to give back so as part of an upcoming animation project, we had the pleasure of hosting a workshop with some fantastic students from Sandhill Academy in Sunderland last week.

It was a great afternoon and we can’t wait to see the animated piece come to life!

January- wow, what a start to the year it's been! We have been jam-packed with back to back shoots, hours and hours of editing and tonnes of pre-production for some very exciting future projects!

Between all of the madness, we did manage to catch a little bts from an event this week for a lovely client for a series of arts & culture events over the next few months.

At Turps Film, we love making films but we also love watching them as well!

We thought we'd give you a little insight into some of our viewing habits and guilty pleasures of our team with our 'Top 3' series.

Kicking things off this week is Claire's Top 3 Movies. These might be an interesting selection and you may question why she's watched them time and time and again but hey, don't we all have our go to films when the mood strikes!

With the first full working week of the new year out of the way, we've had a chance to look back on a few lovely projects from 2024. Last year was amazing! New team members, new clients, new projects and a lot of new hard drives!

"Luke, you have 1 minute to tell us lot at home what a recce is... GO."

Ok, Luke didn't quite manage to cover this all in just 60 seconds.. and that's because he was caught on the spot! A valiant effort regardless!

Now this was just a bit of on-set fun- go in blind to a shoot and you may run into problems such as running over your allocated time and more!

This is where a recce comes in as an imperative aspect of a shoot like this and Turps Film are well prepared when it comes to pre-production!
