four days of absolute bliss at Vegan Camp Out ✌🏻

this was my first time at the festival and it definitely won’t be my last! days consisted of: gorgeous food, making spectacular new friendships, insightful talks and lots of celebrations! 🥳

one thing i would like to shout about is the screening of ’s film the dying trade. I obviously didn’t film any content during this screening, so that’s why it’s not in the reel, but this film was beautifully put together. it shows the relationship between a vegan activist (jack) and his father, a slaughterhouse worker. such moving stuff. it highlights the dilemma vegans often face when it comes to choosing between the love we have for our families and the passion we have for our veganism.

wrapped up my weekend with even MORE gorgeous food, a smashing set from Sara Pascoe, some line-dancing, raving and a bizarre taylor swift cult gathering. 🥳

overall a great experience. I’d definitely recommend it to other vegans who are keen to meet like minded folk, have a life affirming experience and eat meals whilst not having to worry if your food has got milk powder in it 🤪

I’d also recommend it to non-vegans. you can enjoy music, quality food and potentially learn some things you didn’t know about the atrocities being committed in farms, labs and slaughterhouses across the country.

I will be returning VCO 🏕️

a little slice of italy in manchester's northern quarter 🇮🇹

Soots has officially opened in manchester city centre and I had the best time sampling their menu.

italian food is up there on my list of favourite foods, and the delicacies on offer at soots did not disappoint. 😋

the butternut squash and chilli arancini was my favourite dish, followed closely by the rigatoni and then the olive oil ice cream... YES, olive oil ice cream.
i love that you can sit at the bar and watch the pasta being prepped too. the space is very inviting and feels very authentically italian (says the boy who grew up in north manchester and has been to italy a grand total of 1 times) or at least how i picture little trattorias to look like in italy.

go and support this 100% plant based business, you won't regret it. 🌱

in the closing part of my chat with adam mcdade, we talk about adam’s journey as a vegan, his spirituality and the success of the vegan movement over the years.

adam also lets us in on where his favourite spot is in manchester for vegan grub - spoiler: it’s habesha in the gay village 🍽️

📍: 29-31 sackville street, manchester, M1 3LZ

just off deansgate on bridge street in manchester city centre is Flesh Tattoo, a vibrant and friendly tattoo studio where tattooist adam mcdade is based 🫟

adam mcdade • vegan since 2016 🌱

i got to chat to adam about his work and his incredibly unique style of illustration. i never thought I’d see a percy pig with a tab of acid on his tongue - but now I have and it somehow seemed to suit percy perfectly. 🐷

we chatted about veganism in the tattoo industry and adam’s connection with hindu deity, hanuman - a topic that was new to me, but listening to adam speak so passionately about it has definitely peeked my interest.

we also discussed adam’s reasons for going vegan and his favourite vegan friendly restaurant in manchester (which will be revealed in part 2 of our chat that I’ll be posting later today) ✌️

the vegan find! (a new feature, which i’ll aim to do monthly!)

july: VEGAN SHACK’s shake of the month is all about BLUEBERRIES 🫐🩵 it’s a blueberry style shake with a house made blueberry syrup and berry drizzle.

i can’t tell you how delicious it is. creamy, sweet and fruity - perfect for washing down a burger this summer. get it whilst you can!
