In every family shoot, I’m looking to tell a story – not just through traditional portraits, but also through the small, authentic details that bring them to life.

A smile to camera gives us connection. But so does the quiet moment just before – a tiny flower being tucked into a dress, or a curious finger reaching out to a ladybird.

These details don’t just complement the portraits – they deepen the story and help capture the real feeling of time spent together.

Here's a little preview triptych from a lovely family shoot at Newmillerdam last week that caught my eye in the edit.

Something very different for me yesterday, I took the day off to take my youngest to see Gladiators being filmed at Sheffield Arena. Was a fun but super long day. It's now becoming one of my favourite things to go to gigs and events armed with my X100VI - an entirely inappropriate choice of camera for this kind of event with it's fixed 35mm equivalent lens - it's a lot of fun to capture wider shots and the surroundings. Obviously I love watching any kind of filming taking place as well - it's great seeing the camera operators working the room. The eagle-eyed amongst you might spot what I *think* is a DJI Inspire drone preparing to launch in the shot of the Eliminator. They also had an FPV drone flying around the arena as part of the opening credits sequence. It's good to have technical things to geek out on in the downtime between setups (We arrived to pick up tickets for 8am, filming started around 12.30pm and didn't finish until nearly 9pm).

Anyway I thought it would be good to share some of the shots. As always I'm always looking for light, shade and atmosphere. We were specifically asked not to ruin anything on social media before the show goes out so these are carefully selected so as not to ruin any surprises (including a brand new game which I won't ruin by sharing on here - it's good though!)

I'll write another time about how much I love my little X100VI. I really feel like it's liberated my 'non work' photography. It feels like film. It's an absolute joy to use and it's a constant reminder of everything I love about photography.

This short highlights film was part of a full day of hybrid event coverage I provided at Hazlewood Castle for a recent summer staff event. As well as delivering a suite of stills, I filmed throughout the day to capture key moments in motion - giving the client a wide range of content to share.

📸 🎥 Hybrid Event Photography & Videography at UKREiiF 2025

Earlier this year I had the opportunity to work with Winvic Construction and Jennie Holland PR at UKREiiF – one of the UK’s leading events for the real estate and infrastructure sector – capturing both photography and video across their outdoor pavilion in Leeds.

As a solo shooter covering both formats, this project involved:
✅ Capturing photography and video throughout the 3-day event
✅ Delivering edited images from each panel session within hours for real-time social coverage
✅ Producing a branded highlights video for ongoing marketing use

It was a fast-paced and rewarding shoot, and a great example of how hybrid event coverage can deliver serious value for brands.
