For them wot don't know, it's my wife Helen's 50th birthday (she's known as The Other Mrs R to some of us!). Needle goes down at 7pm and as always, requests are welcome and the dancefloor is OPEN!

A recent acquisition: a cover of The Darkness’ “I Believe In A Thing Called Love” done in (allegedly) the style of Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark. Really, it’s more like The Flying Lizards meets Devo, and if that sounds great I've got some unfortunate news for you... 😂

(Perhaps we'll do a Covers Special when I finally set the radio show loose!)

I know it's usually the first Saturday of the month, but this time we're making an exception - because it's my wife Helen's birthday! So we're back at The Red Shed on Saturday 11 October for a Rock'n'Indie special, playing some absolute bangin' tunes you can properly mosh to.

Thank you to all the lovely people who came down to WX Wakefield today for our first end-of-the-month Sunday disco! Especially impressed with the Dirty Dancing lifts in the middle of "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life"!

I'm back at WX on Sunday 26 October, 12pm-3pm when once again the playlist goes where you want it to: if it's in the boxes, it can go on the decks!

A question I'm sometimes asked before booking is: "Do you have a backup in case it all breaks down?". It's a sensible question - after all I'm using equipment approaching 50 years old in some cases!

The answer is of course, yes I do. This is one of them: a Citronic Tamar console from 1985 which is coming to the end of its refurbishment (the right turntable just got a new motor from another unit!). It wasn't purple when I got it of course, but it's better than the gun-metal grey...! All the kit is PAT-tested and safety-checked before it goes out too.

So rest assured: if you book the Roadshow, there's always a backup plan.

🎶 MRS R'S RETRO RADIO SHOW 🎶

It's been coming for a while and taken serious faffing to get the licencing sorted, but I'm finally on the home run! Mrs R's Retro Radio Show starts in a couple of weeks, a fortnightly(ish) podcast hour of music from the vaults, some you know, some you will probably have never heard before. I'll have vague themes, some special guests, and lots more from the 7" boxes of the Roadshow.

Expect everything from pop and rock, Northern soul and ska, musicals and novelties, bangers and bops - all the tunes you've come to expect at a Roadshow night.

As soon as the first episode hits we'll tell you where to subscribe so you don't miss a moment. Exciting times!

With a treasure trove of over 3,000 records, Mrs R bring bops and bangers from the 60s to the 00s, all played on 7" vinyl by a real disc jockey. Pop, rock, indie, Northern Soul, synth and more!

Requests are welcome and the dancefloor is open - come for a boogie or just hang for the vibes.
