My Rab winter wild camping kit 🏔️❄️ What's IN and what's OUT for 4 season wild camping in the UK.

I've been using a lot of Rab kit for my winter wild camps. Some of it has earned a permanent place in my pack, and some of it... hasn't. In this video I go through every piece of Rab gear I own and tell you honestly what's staying in and what's getting the boot.

⛺ Winnats Pass, Peak District: top tier wild camping spot

Had one of those nights you don’t forget. I hiked up above Winnats Pass with the camping kit, found a flat spot on the ridge and settled in for sunset.

If you’ve never been, the pass is a steep limestone gorge just outside Castleton, and from the top you get views right down the valley towards Mam Tor and the Great Ridge. The light at golden hour was unreal, and the clouds kept drifting through all evening, perfect for timelapses. I got the drone up for some aerials of the road winding through the gorge too.

After dark it was just me, the stove, a brew and the lights of the village below. Then I was up early to catch the morning light before packing down.

As always, leave no trace: pack it in, pack it out.

A night on the edge of Winnats Pass 🏕️✨

Pitched up above the Hope Valley with Castleton glowing below and the clouds racing over the stars. A 25-second exposure was just enough to catch the movement in the sky while the tent lit up like a lantern on the hillside.

Nights like this are why I keep dragging a tripod up hills. Pack it in, pack it out, leave nothing but footprints.

Freezing wild camp in the Peak District ❄️🏕️ and the only thing on my mind was what's for tea. When it's this cold, a hot meal is everything. It warms you up, lifts your mood and makes the whole night bearable. So I packed a load of freeze-dried meals from to see which ones actually hit the spot up on the hills. The best thing about freeze-dried food on a winter camp is how simple it is. There's no chopping and no pans to scrub with numb fingers. You boil some water, pour it in, give it a stir and wait a few minutes while you huddle in your sleeping bag. The pouches weigh next to nothing in your pack as well, which you really notice on the walk in. Firepot's meals taste like proper home cooking rather than typical camping food, and the portions are big enough to fill you up after a long day on the moors. Watching the temperature drop as it got dark, with steam coming off a hot pouch of food and the Peak District going quiet around me, is what wild camping is all about for me. Boat at Ben Nevis 🏔️

The old Corpach shipwreck sits on the shore at low tide, weathered timber and rusted steel glowing in the winter light, with a snow-covered Ben Nevis rising out of the cloud behind it. It's one of those Highland scenes that never gets old, no matter how many times you photograph it.

Supper in the Mountains 🏔️

There's nothing quite like sitting in the tent porch with the stove roaring and the clouds rolling in overhead. Tonight's menu is Firepot Beef Stew with Pearl Barley, cooked on the Jetboil. Add boiling water, wait a few minutes, and you've got a proper hot meal with a view money can't buy.

Back at Stockley Bridge, looking towards Seathwaite — one of those proper grey Borrowdale days where the cloud sits low on the tops and the beck is in full voice. I went long exposure on this one to turn the water to silk, and black and white just felt right for the mood of the sky. This valley never disappoints, whatever the weather's doing. 🏔️
