Famke Wilmink is an Aerodynamics Performance Engineer at Visa Cash App RB F1 Team. Her day-to-day involves diving deep into the data to see if the car is actually behaving on the track the way the simulations and wind tunnel predicted it would 🚀

What makes the role special for Famke is how interconnected everything is. She’s constantly talking to a wide range of people across the company, working side-by-side with the race team and drivers to make sure the best possible version of the car hits the tarmac 🛠️

The ultimate payoff for all that hard work happened recently at her home race in Zandvoort 2025! Having grown up right down the road from the track, she got to celebrate Isack Hadjar’s surprise P3 podium right there in person🍾

Her journey into motorsport began with a love for speed through competitive speedskating, later merging with her strengths in maths and physics. Eventually the combination of competition and technical problem-solving led her to Formula 1, and she’s never looked back 🏁

We all know Susie Wolff and her amazing work with F1 Academy, but how much do you know about her racing career? 🏎️

Susie caught the motorsport bug from her parents and started karting at eight years old. She was competitive early on, winning several championships at just 14 years old was awarded the title of 'Top Female Kart Driver in the World' in 2000 🏆

A year later Susie graduated to single seaters, racing in the Formula Renault Winter series before making her debut in the full Formula Renault UK Championship. During her third and final season she finished fifth in the standings, taking three podiums and points in 19 of the 20 races 💪

Her career advanced again in 2005 when she moved up to the British Formula 3 Championship, but an ankle injury disrupted her season.

She spent the following years racing in DTM, recording a best finish of 7th, and announced her departure from the series in 2012 when she was named development driver for the Williams Formula One Team 🙌

In 2014, she become the first woman to participate in a Formula One weekend since 1992, driving the Atlassian Williams F1 Team in a free practice session at the British Grand Prix. Sadly engine issues cut her track time short after just one timed lap, but Williams gave her other free practice opportunities over the following year where she showed she could compete with the men.

She announced her retirement from racing the following year, stating she felt she’d gone as far as she could in F1 and wanted to focus on helping other women in motorsport 🏁

"I do believe a woman can compete at that level. I don't think it will happen very soon, but I will definitely make sure I help the next generation.”

Following her retirement she founded Dare to be Different, a non profit aiming to increase female participation in all aspects of motorsport, and in 2020 it merged with the FIA’s Girls on Track platform, creating one global initiative 👏

In 2023, Susie was appointed managing director of the newly launched F1 Academy, taking another step towards her aim of helping the next generation.

Susie dared to be different and continues to inspire others to do the same 💜

12 WOMEN IN MOTORSPORT MOMENTS OF CHRISTMAS ⭐️

Here are 12 of our (MANY) favourite moments of the year, and what a year it’s been! 🫶✨

We saw Doriane Pin take her first F1 Academy title and fellow driver Alba Larsen took home the very first FIA Women in Motorsport prize! Nina Gademan clinched an emotional maiden win in Zandvoort after being declared unfit to race just the day before!

Plenty of F1 Academy alumni took part in the second ABB Formula E Women’s Test, a deeply important step forward in women’s racing 👏

In ELMS, we saw Jamie Chadwick Racing excel, as did Iron Dames and sisters Amna and Hamda Al Qubaisi in a standout year for female talent in the series.

Abbi Pulling made history as the first woman to stand on the GB3 podium, and Molly Taylor was crowned FIA Extreme H World Cup champion as the series strives to promote equality between male and female drivers!

We also huge steps forward in opportunities for young women and girls, with Lewis Hamilton working with Girlstart in partnership with Mission 44 at the US Grand Prix, and Sebastian Vettel continuing his campaign in Saudi Arabia!

May 2026 be an even BIGGER year for women in motorsport - what were your favourite moments from this year? 🤔

2025 was a big year for F1 Academy!

Alba Larsen is your FIA Woman in Motorsport! ⭐️

This year’s FIA Prize Giving Ceremony took place last week, hosted in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and for the first time, in a historical breakthrough, the organisation included a Women in Motorsport award!

Alba Larsen was the very first recipient, taking home the award on her 17th birthday, in recognition of her career, and notably, her work in encouraging women into racing 👏

Larsen started Girls International Racing Lab (G.I.R.L) at just 15 years old with the aim of making motorsport more accessible for women and girls. In 2026, the initiative hopes to see 15,000 female participants take part in their events globally!

The racing driver - part of the Ferrari Driver Academy - will be competing again next season in F1 Academy for Scuderia Ferrari HP after a solid year in the series, as well as a standout season in Wera Tools British F4 ✨

Congratulations Alba, from all of us at Females in Motorsport - what a deserving winner 💜
