As I mentioned previously if you are going to travel to Greenland and really explore, you need to be self-sufficient on the water, which means you need a boat. A lot of travelers arrive on cruise ships and explore some of the easier to reach places, some travel to urban hubs like Nuuk or Ilulissat and then join tours or hire boats; and then there is us. We have been gifted an amazing opportunity to travel on the Prometej, an Ice Breaker and private boat originally built in 1956 as a tug boat ice breaker and refurbished in the early 2000s with all the modern conveniences. Visit Greenland

For those of you who know about boats, and I know absolutely nothing, below are some details about our Prometej.

Ilulissat is a town in western Greenland, famous for the UNESCO-listed Ilulissat Icefjord, where the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier calves massive icebergs into Disko Bay. The town offers unique experiences like boat tours among icebergs, dog sledding, and whale watching. Spent a day or two here before heading further North. I have never seen so much Ice, and the journey just gets more crazy from here. Visit Greenland Sony Cine

Leaving Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, has been incredible thus far and it's only going to get better. As we move North the landscape has changed drastically and we've had the chance to explore hard to reach remote islands and stunning coastal areas as we've gone north of the Arctic Circle. Greenland is a remarkable place to travel and explore, but there is a catch.....you need a boat. You see Greenland is massive, the size of this island (the largest in the world) is: 2,166,086 km2 (836,330 sq mi); and it has only 60km (37 miles) of paved road, and a population of just 56,000. So in order to travel from town to town and village to village, and explore the incredible fiords and glaciers, you need to be traveling by boat. Here you can explore some of my images taken as I explore Greenland by sea. Visit Greenland Sony Cine

My crew and I now say goodbye to Nuuk, and we will begin our journey heading north along the western coast of Greenland. How far will we travel? We'll stop and visit many locations along the way, and we'll travel as far north as navigation is possible before we get blocked in with ice. Stay tuned. This should be an epic adventure.

FYI - Nuuk is located in the south western region of Greenland, the world’s largest island and home to the worlds second largest ice sheet, covering roughly 80% of the island and is significantly smaller than the Antarctic Ice Sheet. The city of Nuuk is rapidly growing and evolving into the modern capital of Greenland, and tourism is starting to boom thanks to better air connections with Europe and the United States. The residents of Nuuk live close to nature, which is and always has been, a crucial part to their way of living. Visit Greenland

Ryan Pyle Podcast #15 | Today's Podcast is with the Jeff Neumeister. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) by day, and an Ultra Marathon running by night. Not exactly but close. Jeff started running in high school and just kept running – save the Forrest Gump jokes – and it started small with running just for fun, then some organized races, and then an Ultra Marathon which took him 150 miles across the Sahara Desert in Morocco.
