High Heels & Cobblestones

High Heels & Cobblestones Just me navigating the move to rural France after 8 years in Singapore.

The trials, tribulations and challenges of moving from an 'always open' city to a sleepy mediaeval French cobblestoned village where shops close for lunch and on Sundays.

My thinning hair is making me sad. I’m doing all the things I think I should be doing and adhering to the protocol windows for optimum absorption. I’m eating pumpkin seeds and almonds for zinc and magnesium, I’ve upped my protein game, I’m taking collagen peptides, iron and calcium on prescription, cut tea and coffee to once in a blue moon coz of the tannins which prevent mineral absorption. I’ve even stopped drinking alcohol. I’m impatient! What else can I do?

Join me for a ramble or randonée in rural France. We’ll learn new French words, see the first elderflowers in bloom, be startled by a loud noise, and feast our eyes on the exquisite French countryside in Golden Hour!

There’s a cake in France called Yoghurt Cake. This is my version: Summer Edition!

🌞SUMMER EDITION🌞
Yoghurt (pot) cake recipe:

1 x pot yoghurt (keep the pot)
2 x pots sugar
3 x eggs
3 x pots flour
1/2 - 3/4 x pot oil
1 x teaspoon vanilla extract
2 x teaspoons baking powder
Pinch of salt
1 x ripe nectarine

Mix, put in a pre-lined loaf tin and bake at 170 for 35-40 minutes or until the skewer comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes in tin, transfer to a baking rack for 5 minutes. Dust with icing sugar. Inhale.

It’s heating up in the French village and we have a whole week of HOT weather ahead! I’ve bought a fan which will arrive as the temperature drops 🤣 and the summer wardrobe is being organised!

Morning walks in the French countryside never get boring. You can sense the shift of the seasons, the ground is warmer, the birdsong changes tune and the light is stronger and more life force is given.
Go on, get up, get outside, move your body, breathe in Mother Nature and listen to the birdsong.

I miss British pop culture, British celebrity culture and the gossip mags that I used to inhale when print was still a thing! I could still get my fix in Singapore but here in France, British pop culture just ain’t a thing. There is like literally no one in the vicinity with whom I could discuss Katie Price and Lee Andrews with. Dive in, feed my need! This Brit abroad needs her people!

It’s Wednesday morning which can only mean one thing at the start of my day… the French village market! Over the last nearly two years I’ve gone religiously and built up a rapport with the stall holders. I try to buy a little from everyone and love nothing more than a coffee in the sunshine when I’ve completed my haul.

Thinning hair and menopause needs protein I have discovered! I’m on a mission to restore my crowning glory so I’m on a nutrition dense protocol of whole foods with a primary focus on protein! The iron and calcium/Vit D is on prescription and the Miracelle Collagen Peptides and Longevity Complex are available at https://miracelle.life/. The food choices are up to you!

It’s Sunday, I’m on my own, no power moves or peps required, just a quiet, gentle, soft enveloping musk that is clean and powdery and wraps me in the feels of freshly laundered linen. Today’s show and tell from my fragrance collection is Musc Invisible by Juliette Has A Gun. A brand started by Romano Ricci and later joined by Antini Ricci, the great grandchildren of Nina Ricci, the powerhouse behind L’air du Temps. A powdery, musky, all enveloping scent; it’s loaded with white flowers, gentle floral notes and lashings of white musk.

Ten years ago whilst nursing my daughter at the breast, I watched the documentary Cowspiracy and stopped consuming dairy. The whole industry revolts me. It’s a divisive topic I know, but the Milk Marketing Board in the UK pushed a product for years onto a nation with false claims about nutrition. Discuss!

IKEA invited me personally and by name to an event and then didn’t put it on. The store staff had no idea what I was talking about and were shocked when I showed them my email invitation. I’m annoyed and was a little embarrassed in front of my kids. What would you do?
