Great big shout outs to DOP Matt Norman, Tess Benjamin, Ava Martinez, PD Vicky Hinners, Trung Trinh, the family, fixers and EVERYONE we met to make it such a good trip. Plus, Maths Professor, science writer and all round bad ass (her words, not mine 😎)

The prog is fantastic. Well done to the post people and congratulations Zinc Television, the whole series is a belter.

If you’ve ever been to and wondered about those mysterious figures on the Phoenix Caissons/Mulberry Harbour near the Port, well here’s a closer look.

I took these photos for a commission in 2019, (well before the Authorisation Zone around Heli Ops and the Port was established - in case anyone was wondering 😎). But hopefully you can now see just how special these sculptures are. Not just as individual pieces of art, but in the sparse, lonely context that they exist. Somehow the grey concrete, the sea, and the sky, weakly lit by a diffused flat light, lends itself perfectly to monochrome, and the story that they tell.

The statues, representing six wartime figures, were unveiled in 2018 mark the 74th anniversary of the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944.

The sculptures comprise two US GIs - to commemorate the many hundreds of thousands who came through Portland ahead of D-Day - two Portland dockyard 'mateys' and two British naval figures, an officer and a rating.

Definitely the highlight of this shoot was drone filming at the White Cliffs of Dover, sharing the air with and her electric paramotor and joined by Joanna Lumley, who was flying in a tandem microlight with a Union Flag wing!!! On a recent shoot in Suffolk, for a Swedish 🇸🇪 Production company making a branded film for a Greek 🇬🇷client . Shame we couldn't go with them. 👋
