Not all beginners are the same but this is what I've noticed my students often do before they go through my academy 👇
👉 1. TOO MUCH COMPOUND
More compound doesn’t mean = more cut. It just gums up the pad and makes the job a lot messier. Use less product and let the machine do the work. MORE PRODUCT ≠ BETTER RESULTS.
👉 2. POLISHING DIRTY PAINT
If the paint isn’t properly washed and cleaned first, you will drag dirt across the paint and add MORE scratches. Polishing should fix paint, not make it worse. You don’t have to clay bar.. but at least decontaminate it thoroughly.
👉 3. NOT CHECKING YOUR RESULTS PROPERLY
A panel can look good in one light and terrible in another. If you don’t check your work properly, you can miss holograms and flat marks. Use the Sun if you can, or buy an Inspection Light (£20 from Amazon)
👉 4. NOT REFINING ENOUGH
Cutting removes the swirls and scratches. Refining is what gives black paint the proper mirror finish. Removing scratches is only half the job - don’t stop at cutting.
