I met a man recently that said, “I wish I had gotten done for my dad what you do for people, I really do! I’d do anything to just hear his voice again.”

Recording what’s most important begins with talking about values and finding the experiences that caused you to adopt them.

I wish I had all our conversations recorded - bottled up for rainy days. I could really do with a grandpa pep talk right about now. I’m not discouraged to the point of stopping what I’m doing, because I’m learning hurdles are normal. I am learning small practices need to take place so that this doesn’t happen in the future.

I am learning how to navigate this mountain. I tell you what, having someone you love say things like “Rikki, you were made for impossible tasks” or “this is nothin’ just keep moving forward. You’ll get there.” - to have that kind of influence in your life is rarer and rarer these days.

When I’m facing difficulty it’s my grandpa’s voice I want to hear. It’s his stories I want to recount. It’s his legacy I want to carry forward. Mainly because of his utter dependence on God.

He wasn’t perfect - but because he was my grandpa - a loving one, he matters.

Follow along as I navigate more challenges and overcome them with the help of God and maybe a few of his angels.

People’s voices became 10x more important to me when I could no longer hear my grandpa’s words. He passed away 1.5 years ago and we were not quite finished with his interviews to compile his life story.

The recordings we did capture have become everything to me especially while living abroad, away from family, and trying to build a life of meaning with only the guiding hand of God.

I know God is with me, I know I will see my grandfather again - but what I really need in my grief is to hear his wisdom so I can carry on the torch. That’s what we all need. So it was born - Preserve Your Stories is here to serve you and your loved ones.

It has. It come with its challenges and steep learning curves. Thanks for joining and supporting my journey. I love what I’m doing and I hope to never stop.

I’ll do the impossible, grandpa. We will. God willing. 🪽

Ohhhhhh, I’m pinching myself!!!

The people I am meeting and the joy it is bringing is simply beyond me. God is so available to people in ways that are historic, genuine, lovely, and holy.

Thank you for every one of you that are sitting with me to gift your family a piece of your heart, your wisdom, your experience.

I feel like I’m living in a dream state as I sit across from strangers that feel like family. There’s nothing like it.

What has the older generation taught you?

Some of my dearest friends are people who are older than me (just by a bit 😉) and were brave enough to say truth right to my face. Sometimes I didn’t like or agree with them, but they had gained experience enough to know better than to hoard their wisdom.

I will forever be grateful for wisdom I gained when I didn’t ask for it, but still needed to hear it.

The stranger will never know how much his words meant to me. He stood there and might’ve gone home wondering if he said the right thing the right way because the way public speaking goes and the way us humans are. I hope God speaks peace to him always because the words he shared brought me to the very man who helped me shape my faith in Christ.

I’ll always be grateful to my grandpa for going up a life of worse things and choosing to better himself for his family. My grandpas words echo in my mind and because I have his testimony recorded, they can echo in the lives of my children who didn’t get to meet him.

I’m forever grateful for the man who inspired this entire business. I love you grandpa 🕊️
