Peak Cluster refused access to council land after a vote at the Town Hall last night.

Four of the five parties voted to say 'No' to Peak Cluster.

A proposal was made by Wirral Conservative Leader Simon Mountney to exclude the proposed parking charges from the review.

The deputy leader Cllr Davies supported this, only Green and Reform councillors reportedly opposed making an immediate decision.

A six-year campaign against plans for new parking charges has secured a major win for Wirral communities.

Finally, the new vehicles to clear gullies have arrived.

Conservative Councillor Max Booth now chairs the Environment, Climate Change and Transport Committee and said
"It is important that our essential services have the equipment and support they need to continue maintaining Wirral’s highway drainage network efficiently and effectively.
“Replacing ageing vehicles with high-specification alternatives is a no-brainer in the long-term as the new vehicles will bring improved reliability, reduce costs and support safer working conditions for our staff.
“Most importantly, they will improve the fundamental service that our residents rightfully expect to be provided and ensure that gullies are cleared more effectively."

Another attempt to build on our greenbelt is looming with landowners launching a consultation on farmland by Milner Road and Barnston Road. https://heswall.publicconsultation.uk/ - closing 27th July.
Plans for this site ref 7.15 within SP062 were refused by Wirral Planning and the landowners appeal was not successful as the Planning Inspector upheld the refusal. All records relating to this are published, including details of those local councillors who chose to speak at the meetings held in public, in May 2023.

Wirral West Conservatives will continue to fight to protect our precious green belt and encourage the regeneration of derelict and urban land on the eastern side of the borough instead.

New Threat to the Glegg Arms

A new application has been submitted for the Glegg Arms — proposing full demolition and a rebuilt façade that copies the current look using some salvaged materials.
The Conservation Officer has accepted demolition due to low ceiling heights, but there are real concerns this could slip into pastiche rather than preservation. Example: the original chimney stacks would be replaced with GRP replicas. (At least the red dragon returns.)
