I believe that the Government’s proposed SEND reforms could limit EHCPs, weaken legal rights, replace individual plans with packages, reduce appeals, and remove school choice. In my view, children could be left without the support they need as a result.

While I’ve been busy advocating by going to Parliament and encouraging people to respond to the SEND consultation or contact their MP, I still haven’t submitted my own response 😅

My neurodivergent brain has finally kicked in, so now I’m writing it 🧠

Anyone else the same? 😂

The deadline is tonight at 23:59.

If you’re last minute like me, there’s help available from Special Needs Jungle .

Thank you to all the MPs so far who have supported my amendment to the to ensure that the Government acknowledge explicitly the importance of specialist provision for those children with the most complex needs and whose needs may not be capable of being met safely or effectively in a mainstream setting;

We must ensure reforms to SEND provision preserve access to an appropriate range of placements to support families and schools.

I've been overwhelmed and very moved by the amount of supportive emails and comments thank you to all those who have got in touch.

The SEND system needs reform and investment but we must get this right to ensure that the most vulnerable are protected.

🚨 WE ARE BEING HEARD — NOW WE NEED TO SPEAK LOUDER 🚨

Please email your MP TODAY and ask them to support Kate Osborne’s amendment to the King’s Speech.

This amendment calls on the Government to explicitly recognise the importance of specialist provision for children with the most complex needs — including those who cannot be safely or effectively supported in mainstream settings.

Every child deserves the right support, the right education, and a safe place to thrive.

I know many parents are exhausted and feel like nothing changes. I felt sceptical myself before going to Parliament. But after speaking directly with MPs, I genuinely believe people are listening — they just need to hear from more of us.

Children only get one childhood. We have to get this right.

A huge concern for many families is ensuring independent specialist schools remain part of the government’s plans, as for many children there are few suitable alternatives within local authority provision.

Another major concern is the weakening of children’s legal rights to the right support and the right provision.

Schools are already stretched, and many people are worried that schools will not have the staffing, funding or resources needed to make these plans work in reality.

This TES article explains some of those concerns:
