Police hunting Birmingham 'machete gang after street disorder'

Police were called to reports of disorder on Kings Road, in Kingstanding, just before 6pm, on Thursday, May 1.

West Midlands Police are hunting a 'gang wielding a machete after reports of a disorder on a street in Birmingham.

The force said they were called to the trouble on Kings Road, in Kingstanding, just before 6pm, yesterday, Thursday, May 1.

Unconfirmed local reports suggested "a gang on motorbikes chased a victim with a machete" and he was reportedly "bleeding loads."

Posting on social media, one person said: "My daughter was on kings Road and said lads on motorbikes chased a lad and hit him with a machete.

"And the kid was bleeding loads. My daughter is young and was advised to get home. Hopefully the lads ok."

Another person posted: "I saw there was trouble walking up King’s Road towards Boldmere. It was going off, but didn’t think to look back as didn’t want any involvement.

"It was lads on loud motorbikes it’s not getting any better around here."

A different Facebook user said: "I was wondering this because we heard it all when my son was in his karate class and they were locking the doors. I hope the lad is okay."

Witnesses also said a police helicopter was spotted overhead as the force searched for those responsible for the disorder.

No arrests have been made and no victim was found with the ambulance service stood down, police said.

Drug dealer's 'sneaky' hiding place for handgun after flat raid near Birmingham city centre

West Midlands Police found a handgun, ammunition and co***ne after raiding a flat on Bell Barn Road near Birmingham city centre

A 'sneaky' drug dealer who kept co***ne and a handgun stashed in a jewellery box has been jailed, police say.

Lorenc Lika, aged 41, was arrested after West Midlands Police officers raided a flat located on Bell Barn Road, in the Westside area of Birmingham, near the city centre.

Officers, including those from the force's Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU), targeted the address with a warrant on February 25 after acting on information.

Inside, they unearthed a drug factory with a range of equipment used for the illegal production process.

Co***ne was also found, including some concealed behind a panel, alongside a handgun and ammunition.

West Midlands Police said that officers had found Class A drugs and a handgun hidden inside a jewellery box.

Lika, also of Bell Barn Road, was arrested at the address.

He later admitted possession of a firearm, ammunition and having Class A drugs with intent to supply.

He was jailed for eight years and nine months at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday (April A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "A dealer has been jailed after we seized Class A drugs and a handgun which was hidden inside a jewellery box.

"Officers from West Midlands Police and Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU) acted on information and carried out a raid near Birmingham city centre.

Motorbikes and cars recovered and van seized in West Midlands Police crackdown on vehicle crime

Officers from neighbourhood policing teams across the West Midlands have been busy tackling vehicle crime.

Across the region, stolen vehicles including a motorbike have been recovered by officers, while a van was seized in Wolverhampton for having no tax or insurance.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "As part of their integral role helping make the West Midlands’ communities safer, our neighbourhood policing teams have been busy tackling issues around vehicle crime.

"It’s something that is often reported to neighbourhood officers as causing concern within communities, and they’re working hard to deal with it.

"A stolen motorcycle was also recovered in the Black Country by the Rowley neighbourhood team, while more stolen vehicles have been recovered by our teams in Billesley, Castle Bromwich, Kingstanding, Stechford, and Northfield.

"Our neighbourhood officers, working with colleagues from across West Midlands Police, will continue to target vehicle theft and your information can be vital.

"Local officers were also out and about seizing vehicles for having no tax or insurance.

Woman appears in court charged with assaulting police officers in Sedgley.

Samantha Dalton has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm against an officer, plus other offences.

A police officer who was injured while responding to an incident in Sedgley has been discharged from hospital - as a woman appeared in court charged with causing grievous bodily harm.

The officer suffered facial injuries while on duty in Bull Ring, on Wednesday evening (April 23).

Police were called to the scene shortly before 8pm due to an incident involving a group of people outside a pub.

Samantha Dalton has now appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court charged with causing grievous bodily harm against an officer.

The 37-year-old from Wolverhampton has also been charged with assault by beating three other officers, a racially aggravated public order offence and a further public order offence.

Ashley Johnson has also been charged with obstructing an officer and criminal damage.

The 34-year-old will appear at Dudley Magistrates' Court on May 8.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We have charged a woman with causing grievous bodily harm against a police officer - and assaulting three more officers - after we were called to an incident in Sedgley.

Birmingham ra**st jailed over 'catalogue of abuse' against kids.

Mohammed Mire, 35, from Saltley, has been jailed for 26 years.

A Birmingham ra**st has been jailed over 'catalogue of abuse' against two kids dating back a number of years.

Mohammed Mire, from Saltley, had been charged with ra**ng a child under 13 years, three counts of ra**ng a teenage girl, assault by pe*******on, threats to kill, and actual bodily harm.

The 25-year-old denied all of the charges, but was found guilty following a trial. He was jailed for 26 years following a hearing on Tuesday, April 22.

In a statement, police said: "A man from Birmingham has been jailed for 26 years for several serious offences against two children, including r**e and sexual assault.

"We were contacted in August 2024 about a girl being sexually abused.

"Our officers carried out immediate enquiries, and Mohammed Mire was arrested later that day.

Following a thorough investigation, officers discovered Mire was responsible for a catalogue of abuse against two young people dating back several years.

The 35-year-old, of Moat House Road, was subsequently charged with ra**ng a child under 13, three counts of ra**ng a teenage girl, assault by pe*******on, threats to kill, and actual bodily harm.

"Mire denied all of the charges but was found guilty following a trial.

"On Tuesday (22 April) he was sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court to 26 years in prison.

Couple whose dogs died after being hit with broom and kicked in face handed animal ban.

Katie Byard and Richard Morgan have been handed suspended sentences.

A couple whose dogs died after they were hit with a broom and kicked in the face have been punished in court.

Katie Byard admitted hurting her white Chihuahua called Coco and black, while her boyfriend Richard Morgan injured her white Jack Russell Terrier cross called Teddy.

Coco was kicked in the face, while Teddy was 'violently hit' with a broom.

The RSPCA launched an investigation after receiving complaints regarding injuries sustained by the two dogs.

The pets were owned by Byard, 35, and under the care of both her and Morgan, 34.

A vet logged concerns after Teddy was found to have suffered a fractured skull and later died.

Concerns were then raised about Coco, who had been brought in to vets a few days later with suspected non-accidental injuries.

Coco was showing signs of trauma, bruising and swelling to the left side of her face.

She was transferred to RSPCA Birmingham Animal Hospital but could not be saved.

In their report, the vet said: "It is clear from the extent of the injuries sustained by both of the dogs that these injuries would not have occurred without significant blunt force trauma being applied."

RSPCA inspector Boris Lasserre, who investigated for the animal welfare charity, said: "This proved to be a most shocking example of non-accidental injuries which led to the death of both dogs.

"Coco was kicked so hard that her eye ruptured and fractured eye socket and needed repeated surgery.

"Teddy had suffered a fractured skull from the force of the blows he received from the very person who was supposed to protect him.

Animals feel pain and suffering, just like we do, and there is never an excuse for inflicting such violent trauma onto animals.

"All animal owners have a duty of care and legal responsibility to treat their pets with kindness and compassion."

Byard and Morgan admitted causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and were handed a five-year ban on owning animals.

Birmingham teen set fire to National Express double decker bus with unaware passengers on board.

A teenager torched a double decker bus costing National Express £225,000 due to it being written off.

Theo Francis took three attempts to set fire to a piece of paper which he left on a seat on the upper deck of the no.33 service in Kingstanding, Birmingham.

He then got off as flames spread while other passengers were sitting on the lower deck.

Francis remained on the run for months prompting West Midlands Police to issue a wanted appeal, showing CCTV images capturing him wearing dark clothes and a balaclava with his hood also pulled up.

The then 16-year-old, who has since turned 18, initially denied it was him after being caught but went on to admit a charge of arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered.

Francis, of Finchley Road, Kingstanding, was sentenced to two years and seven months at Birmingham Crown Court.

The incident took place around 10pm on October 25, 2023 as the bus went along Brockwell Road.

Prosecutor Shehraz Hussain said: "The defendant boarded a bus, belonging to National Express, and sat on the upper deck.

At this time there were other passengers sat on the lower deck.

"Theo took a piece of paper, set it alight and placed it on the floor.

"This burnt momentarily before it extinguished of its own accord.

"He picked up the same piece of paper from the ground and set it alight and placed it back on the ground out of view of the CCTV. This piece of paper again extinguished."

He continued: "At this point he produced another piece of paper and placed it on the seat and set it alight.

"Theo watched the paper burn and produce flames before leaving the bus.

"The flames grew causing extensive damage to the bus."

The prosecutor confirmed the £225,000 bus had to be written off because it was not economically viable to repair it.

In a statement National Express said the incident risked the safety of the driver and passengers, while adding that people lighting fires on buses deterred others from wanting to use them.

Francis was not arrested until February last year when he claimed it was someone else who set fire to the bus.

After being bailed he went on to commit a number of other offences which resulted in him receiving a short suspended prison sentence and a youth rehabilitation order.

Andrew Baker, defending, stated Francis was ultimately 'brave' to plead guilty.

Police scramble helicopter and canine unit to locate stolen Kia used in burglary

Police made four arrests and found a number of tools usually involved in burglaries

Police have made four arrests following a number of car key burglaries in the West Midlands.

West Midlands Police said two car key burglaries took place in Dudley last week.

The force scrambled a helicopter and canine unit to help track down a white Kia that was stolen during a burglary in Cradley last Saturday (April 19).

The Kia was pursed until the occupants exited the vehicle in Foxhills Road, Wordsley, around 3.7 miles away.

Following a foot chase, two boys aged 17 and 16-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of burglary and going equipped.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Midland hotel stay and car park visit led to two men being jailed

Jonuzi and Spata dealt co***ne in Rugeley but their downfall came after drawing suspicion on a car park.

A pair of drug dealers who sold co***ne in the Midlands have been jailed.

Demir Jonuzi, aged 29, and Elton Spata, 32, were stopped by Staffordshire Police officers after drawing suspicion in a car park on November 15 last year.

Jonuzi had £1,140 in cash in his possession and a number of mobile phones.

Officers then searched a hotel room that Jonuzi had been residing in and discovered a burner phone.

Both men were later charged with possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of Class A - co***ne and possession of criminal property.

At Stafford Crown Court (April 22), they were sentenced to three years and three months in prison.

Birmingham stabbing live as man rushed to hospital and major city route closed

A man has been rushed to hospital this afternoon following an attack near a popular green space in Birmingham.

A man was stabbed near a popular city park this afternoon.

999 crews descended on Yardley Wood Road just after 2.30pm to reports of a stabbing.

Critical care paramedics found a man with "multiple serious injuries" and he was rushed to hospital.

Yardley Wood Road remains closed this afternoon and the play area in Swanshurst Park, just off the key route, is also cordoned off.

Live traffic system INRIX is reporting that Yardley Wood Road is closed this afternoon.

There are also bus diversions.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We were called to Yardley Wood Road at around 2.35pm this afternoon after a man was stabbed.

"He was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

"We are in the early stages of our investigation and would urge witnesses or people with information to contact us via Live Chat on our website or by calling 101 quoting log number 2746 of 24 April. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

"We will have officers patrolling in the area this evening to offer reassurance to the community."

Robber's 'three weeks of hell' in prison led to Birmingham rampage upon release,

Paul Campbell, aged 34, was declared 'dangerous' and jailed for seven years

A 'dangerous' robber's final weeks in prison led to him going on a violent rampage in Birmingham city centre within days of being released.

Paul Campbell, aged 34, was jailed for seven years for car-jacking two Fiestas, trying to steal a moped and attacking two further vehicles with bricks.

As he was sentenced last month Birmingham Crown Court heard that his crime spree was sparked by a rapid decline in his mental health following his release from HMP Featherstone in Staffordshire on October 4.

His barrister Holly Kilbey explained he had been detoxing from methadone, a medicine used to treat he**in, while in custody.

She said: "While in the process of detoxing he became involved in an altercation with an officer at Featherstone prison which resulted in him being put in isolation.

"While there his treatment was exceptionally poor. He was only allowed one meal a day as opposed to the standard two.

"He was only allowed to shower twice during the three-week period he was there.

"Shortly after his release from isolation he was released from Featherstone.

"The effect of isolation caused his mental health to deteriorate rapidly."

Ms Kilbey stated Campbell had not been given his medication for Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) while in isolation which has a calming effect on him.

She added he was released from prison 'unmedicated', without a date for his drug rehabilitation appointment or without support to find accommodation.

Ms Kilbey went on: "As such his mental health declines even further in the two days after release.

"When committing the offences he accepts he has a full memory of doing so.

"He did so under the belief his life was in danger. He can't explain why he thought that."

Following his release on October 4 Campbell was actually arrested again for undisclosed reasons before he went on to commit his crime spree on October 7.

He robbed a woman of her Ford Fiesta on the Lancaster Circus roundabout in Birmingham city centre after flagging her down and screaming 'stop the f****** car'.

Campbell assaulted the victim and pulled out chunks of her hair in the process of stealing the vehicle, which he abandoned shortly afterwards having collided into a kerb.

Next, he attacked a moped rider at a set of traffic lights on the Aston Expressway and punched him to the ground.

Campbell shouted 'm***** f***** I will kill anybody I can do anything' but ultimately fled empty-handed.

Either shortly before or after that incident he struck an ambulance with a brick on Newtown Middleway.

Campbell then returned to Lancaster Circus where he again targeted a Ford Fiesta.

He smashed the window with a rock and assaulted the driver who ran off.

Campbell drove away but crashed the Fiesta into a set of railings on Dartmouth Middleway.

His final act before being arrested was to smash the window of another moving car with a brick and gas canister.

Campbell had committed 39 previous offences including wounding with intent, assaults and burglary.

He was jailed for three years in 2021 for controlling and coercive behaviour, serving most of the sentence in custody before being recalled.

For his October 7 crime spree he pleaded guilty to two offences of robbery, one count of assault with intent to rob, two charges of criminal damage and an offence of dangerous driving.

He was sentenced to seven years with an extended licence period of three years at Birmingham Crown Court on March 27 this year, as well as banned from driving for seven years and eight months.

Recorder Michael Stephens said: "You conducted a campaign of criminal behaviour that caused immense distress and injury to those affected as well as wanton damage to property and risk to other road users.

Drugs kingpin 'Denzelboss' who arranged £188k co***ne deal outside school on run
Alexi Morgan was a high-ranking member of an organised crime group that peddled co***ne and he**in via the now-ceased EncroChat platform.

A drugs kingpin who went by the name 'Denzelboss' and arranged a co***ne deal worth more than £180,000 outside a West Midlands primary school has been jailed in his absence.

Alexi Morgan, aged 30, was a high-ranking member of a Midlands-based drugs supply network which operated on an encrypted communications platform.

Morgan, from West Bromwich, liaised with other organised crime members via EncroChat to peddle tens of kilos of co***ne and he**in.

On one occasion, Morgan organised the exchange of five kilos of co***ne and £188,000 in cash outside a primary school in Walsall.

His criminal enterprise was brought down following an investigation by the National Crime Agency (NCA), which targeted the EncroChat platform as part of its Operation Venetic.

Messages laid bare Morgan’s role in supplying co***ne and he**in across the West Midlands.

From EncroChat evidence alone, Morgan was found to have peddled 27 kilos of Class A drugs across the region with a wholesale value of more than £800,000.

Morgan was found guilty in his absence at court.

He failed to appear at Birmingham Crown Court for the start of his two-week trial.

On April 23, a jury delivered guilty verdicts on all charges against him, and a judge sentenced him to 15 years and six months’ imprisonment.
