Old copywriting frameworks work brilliantly as prompt scaffolds. AIDA, PAS, Before After Bridge.

Use proven copywriting frameworks as scaffolds. "Write to AIDA," or "use Problem Agitate Solve," or "follow Before After Bridge." Established frameworks give AI a clear shape to follow.

Telling AI the format up front saves three rounds of reformatting later.

Choose the output shape up front. "Reply as a bullet list." "Reply as a table with columns name and price." Format dictated up front saves three rounds of reformatting.

AI cannot read your mind. If you want it to use a document, paste the document.

Do not describe a document, paste it. "Here is the article, summarise it in five bullet points." AI cannot read your mind, your CRM, or the link you forgot to include.

Posted because UK SMEs using AI well are seeing real productivity gains.

AI does not know what today is. If the date matters, tell it.

When the date matters, give it explicitly. "Today is 27 April 2026." AI is trained on a snapshot and can guess the year wrong on time sensitive tasks.

AI loves to open with great question and close with let me know if you need more. Cut both.

Tell AI to skip preambles and sign offs. "No great question, no let me know if you need more." Padding wastes time and makes outputs feel automated.

When AI gives you a weak answer, the fix is in your prompt. Asking AI why exposes it.

When the answer is weak, ask AI to explain its reasoning. "Why did you open with that line?" The explanation usually reveals the missing instruction in your prompt.

Most people use one AI for everything. The pros run the same prompt through two and pick the better answer.

Different AI models give different output for the same prompt. Try the same brief on Claude and ChatGPT, or Gemini and Mistral, and compare. The best one for your job is rarely the one with the loudest marketing.

What is your version of this?

AI does not need your client's real name to write the email. Use placeholders.

Before pasting documents, replace names, emails, and addresses with placeholders like [Client Name]. AI does not need real details to do useful work, and the output is just as good.

Tip 20 of 99. UK government estimates AI could add £47 billion to the UK economy over the next decade. The compounding starts with practical prompting.

Pasting client data into ChatGPT could breach your contracts. Check the data policy first.

Treat any prompt as if a third party may see it. Confidential client data, NDA work, and personal details belong in tools with proper data agreements. Check your AI tool's data policy before pasting anything sensitive.

AI is brilliant at some tasks and rubbish at others. Most people use it for the wrong ones.

AI is good at first drafts, structure, and synthesis. AI is poor at fresh data, your private context, and judgement calls. Use it where it shines, do the rest yourself.
