Plenty of poets have turned to the beautiful game for lyrical inspiration, and today it's Rosie Driffill's turn to explore the sensory thrill of a cup game in her poem 'We'.

Exclusively on The YJ Blog.

The FA Cup: An Homage in Verse

Plenty of poets have turned to the beautiful game for lyrical inspiration, heavyweights among them including Ted Hughes, Simon Armitage and Lemn Sissay MBE who – aptly – lent his lyrical ingenuity to FA Cup Ode Adventure Flight in 2015.

In the time since our launch, the number of submissions from writers across the globe has grown exponentially, and so we made the decision to delay Issue #2 while we recruited some extra help (and bought a bigger post-box…). On that note, we're absolutely delighted to announce that we now have a new co-editor of The York Journal Issue #2 - Amy Stewart.

Amy, who you may remember as the writer of the short story, Hekla, in Issue #1, is the winner of the 2021 New Writing North Word Factory Northern Apprentice Award, and has been featured in numerous publications. It’s incredibly exciting to have her experience and love of literature on hand.

Watch this space for more updates on Issue #2 in the coming month.
