Chances are I am sitting back, waiting for someone to help me with that question too. I have always been a dreamer and while my head was in the clouds, I had a lot of things figured out for me. I was a mama’s boy, yeah, but it was the undercurrent in my veins that controlled me, and that passion inside wanted be a business owner, entrepreneur, or a hustler. As fate has it sometimes, my upbringing, the families, and my hard head led me down the path to all those schools of higher learning. The proverbial school of hard knocks and I got the scars to prove it. As I have grown older, I have had to makes some modifications to my lifestyles and settle down a bit like the rest. Life in between 1977 and 2019 took a lot of turns. If you are willing to listen, then I am willing to fill you in on a life that was definitely well lived, and one that I still look back and wonder, “how did I make it to here.”
November 2017, life as I knew it completely changed, and for me after forty five years, I felt a need to show this change somehow and document it. In just a short twelve months, everything I knew, completely fell away from me, with and without my help, put this “Commander” in a position to suddenly have to reevaluate who I am, where do I go, what happens next, and do I have what it takes to start over, one more time. I am Charles L Commander, and this is a story of my life growing up in Columbus, Georgia, my birthplace, a town that made me, broke me, and showed me the door buddy when it was time to grow up. If you think you are dealing with slow country living folks here, I am here to testify, you’ve got another thing coming.

This is me and my dad, Jan Commander. This picture just recently struck e that I was taller than him. To me, the man was the hero in my childhood. I respected him in all the breaths I took and will always hold him in that regard. My mom and I lost him June 6, 2019. There was nothing that could have prepared us for his passing. He was a Good Fella, a man of the town, straight shooter, and a mans man. The women loved him and his friends adored him. My whole life as I know it I had the best seat in the house to watch his life. He was my idol and my mom’s rock. He knew more about sports than anyone I knew.
