šŸ˜­ Fresh concreteā€¦ and less than 30 minutes later, it was ruined.

The crew had just finished pouring our new driveway when someone drove straight across the fresh concrete. Unfortunately, our main security camera wasn't recording because the memory card had filled up the day before, so we have no footage showing who was responsible.

Another camera confirms the crew was still cleaning up around 4:09 PM, and by 4:30 PM, a neighbor noticed fresh tire tracks across the driveway.

We contacted the contractor right away, but they said they could repair itā€”at an additional cost. The barricades also didn't fully block access, leaving us wondering if more could have been done to prevent this.

If this happened to you, would you expect to pay for the repair, or should the contractor share some responsibility?

Paid $3,400 for new steps and a railing and Iā€™m trying hard to trust the process here šŸ˜…At the moment it looks pretty raw...

At the moment it looks pretty raw ā€” rough cuts, fresh treated wood, and zero finished appearance. The contractor says once everything dries and gets stained itā€™ll look completely different.

Concrete gets poured tomorrow, but I canā€™t stop staring at these pipes and wondering what exactly the plan is here. They look almost level with where the concrete surface will be, and Iā€™m honestly nervous theyā€™re supposed to stay visible.

šŸš§ I know fresh concrete changes as it cures... but should it look like this?

We invested $12,500 in a new driveway, and while the finish itself looks good, the color variation has me second-guessing everything. A lighter band runs through the center, making it appear like two different pours.

The contractor insists it's normal and that the color will blend as the concrete cures. I'm trying to be patient, but it's hard not to wonder if this is how it'll look permanently.

I'm building a deck around a mature live oak in North Florida and want to make sure I'm planning for the tree's future growth.

My biggest concern is leaving enough space around the trunk so that as the tree expands over the years, it won't start pushing against the decking or lifting boards. The goal is for this deck to last 20+ years without creating problems for either the tree or the structure.

For those who have built around large trees before, how much clearance would you leave to account for long-term growth?

My slab is roughly 12'9" Ɨ 23'9", but the first load ran out much sooner than expected. I wasn't expecting to spend an extra $600 just to complete the pour.

For those with concrete experience, does this sound normal, or would you ask the supplier to verify the delivered volume?

A commercial concrete contractor completed the job, and while everything looks decent at first glance, I'm not sure if the finish meets expectations. I specifically wanted a lighter, whiter-looking concrete, but the final color seems different than I imagined.

I recently had my patio extended with a 4-inch concrete slab, and the finished surface looks great. My concern is what's underneath. Because of the yard's slope, a significant amount of sand and fill was used to build up the base. Once the forms came off, I noticed several areas where the slab is sitting over about 4 inches of exposed fill near the edges.

The contractor later covered it with dirt and told me to establish grass as quickly as possible to help prevent erosion. They insist this is standard practice, but I'm worried the fill could eventually wash away and leave the slab unsupported.

šŸ˜¤ Can I safely move this A/C pad a couple of inches?

Last summer, our HVAC contractor installed the outdoor unit on a prefab concrete pad about 18 inches from the house, saying it was required for the permit. The problem? It left just enough space to make mowing a nightmare.

I only need about 2 extra inches for my mower to fit between the pad and the fence post. Before I try to shift the pad, I wanted to ask: Is the A/C unit typically anchored to the pad, or can the entire setup be moved slightly without risking damage to the refrigerant lines or electrical connections?

Anyone dealt with this before?
