TaTU National Alumni Association Congratulates University Athletes on Outstanding Performance at the UG Invitational Athletics Championship

The Tamale Technical University (TaTU) National Alumni Association extends its heartfelt congratulations to Team TaTU for their remarkable performance at the just-ended University of Ghana (UG) Invitational Athletics Championship in Legon, where the university proudly secured 3rd place overall.

This achievement is a testament to the hard work, discipline, resilience, and determination of our athletes, coaches, technical officials, and the entire Sports Department. Competing against some of the finest university athletes in the country and emerging with an impressive medal haul reflects the growing strength of sports development at Tamale Technical University.

We are particularly proud of the team's outstanding accomplishment of winning 15 medals, made up of 3 Gold, 4 Silver, and 8 Bronze medals, across various track and field events. The performances of athletes such as Alhassan Yakubu, Ibrahim Barikisu, Abdul-Rashid Nuhu, Abdul-Fatawu Rayhana, Mwangu Genevieve Maharisum, Owusu Ansah Joseph, Yaboah Richard, and the relay teams have brought honour and recognition to our beloved university.

The Alumni Association commends every athlete who represented TaTU with distinction and patriotism. Your dedication, perseverance, and team spirit have raised the flag of the university high and inspired both current students and alumni across the country.

We also congratulate the university management, the Sports Directorate, coaches, and support staff for their continuous investment in nurturing sporting talents and creating opportunities for students to excel beyond the classroom.

As alumni, we remain committed to supporting initiatives that promote sports excellence and holistic student development. We encourage Team TaTU to remain focused, continue training diligently, and strive for even greater achievements in future competitions.

DAGBON ADVOCACY NETWORK CONDEMNS XENOPHOBIC ATTACKS AND THREATS AGAINST AFRICAN MIGRANTS IN SOUTH AFRICA

The Dagbon Advocacy Network (DAN) strongly condemns the recent xenophobic attacks, intimidation, and threats directed at foreign nationals living and working in South Africa.

As Africans, we share a common history of struggle, resilience, and solidarity. It is therefore deeply disturbing to witness fellow Africans being targeted, harassed, and threatened simply because of their nationality. Such acts undermine the principles of African unity, peaceful coexistence, and mutual respect that form the foundation of our continent.

We are deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of migrants, including Ghanaians and other African nationals, who contribute meaningfully to the economic and social development of South Africa. No individual should be subjected to violence, discrimination, or fear because of where they come from.

The Dagbon Advocacy Network calls on the South African government, law enforcement agencies, and all relevant authorities to act swiftly and decisively to protect lives and property, prevent further attacks, and ensure that those responsible for these acts are brought to justice. The authorities must uphold the rule of law and guarantee the protection of all persons residing within South Africa, irrespective of their nationality.

We further urge political leaders, traditional authorities, religious leaders, and civil society organizations in South Africa to publicly reject xenophobia and promote tolerance, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence among all communities.

At this critical moment, we stand in solidarity with all victims of xenophobic violence and reaffirm our commitment to the values of Pan-Africanism, human dignity, and social justice. We call on African governments, regional bodies, and citizens across the continent to work together to combat xenophobia and strengthen the bonds of unity among African peoples.

Africa's future depends on unity, not division. Let us reject hatred and violence and embrace the spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood that unites us as one people.

The Majority Leader Hon. Mahama Ayariga has urged Chairpersons to Committees to prioritse their work and submit reports in due time to enable the House realise it’s oversight mandate.
Hon. Ayariga made this known when he presented the explanatory memorandum on the business statements for the third week ending Friday, 5th June, 2026.
He further noted that the Business Committee has scheduled nine (9) Ministers to attend upon the House to respond to Sixty-Three (63) questions during the week.
According to him, the House is expected to begin commentary on the Finance Minister’s statement on Ghana’s new engagement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday, June 2,2026. He stated that Members are encouraged to fully participate in discussion.

Afenyo-Markin Slams BoG’s 0.75% MoMo Transfer Fee as “E-Levy in Disguise”

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has criticised the Bank of Ghana over the newly announced 0.75% charge on transfers from bank accounts to mobile money wallets, describing it as a backdoor reintroduction of the repealed Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy).

Raising the matter on the floor of Parliament in the presence of the Finance Minister, Afenyo-Markin argued that the central bank’s directive contradicts government’s decision to abolish the E-Levy.

“I want to bring to the attention of the House, especially since the Finance Minister is here, this announcement by the Bank of Ghana of charging 0.75% when somebody transfers money from his bank account into his mobile money wallet,” he stated.

The Minority Leader reminded the House that government had repealed the E-Levy and questioned why a similar charge was being introduced through another mechanism.

The issue sparked exchanges during parliamentary proceedings, with the Speaker engaging the Minority Leader over the concerns raised.

However, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga objected to the comments made by Afenyo-Markin and called for them to be expunged from the official records of Parliament.

According to Mahama Ayariga, the Minority Leader should have known better, particularly regarding parliamentary procedures, stressing that the Finance Minister does not respond to issues that are not properly scheduled before the House.
