Police Special Operations officers responded to a distress call in Kpalsi after a man identified as Hashim was allegedly found with dried leaves suspected to be Indian h**p, but he fled before they arrived.

While officers were searching the residence, a young man, Mohammed Alhassan, arrived at the scene and was arrested to assist with investigations as efforts continue to trace the main suspect.

Sources close to the Ghana Police Service have confirmed that ASP Alhaj Bawa Abdul Jelil has been approved for promotion to the rank of DSP by the IGP, following his outstanding performance in the line of duty.

A key officer of the Black Maria Group, Alhaj Jelil rose to prominence during the anti-galamsey operations and has since continued his impact in the northern part of Ghana, where he is actively leading efforts against illegal drug activities. His exceptional work earned him approval at the Police Council Meeting held on 22nd December 2025.
