🚨 Ejisu Mob Nearly Lynches Suspected Taxi Snatcher; Police Rescue Suspect

A suspected taxi snatcher was rescued by police from an angry mob at Ejisu after he was allegedly caught shortly after taking a taxi from its driver.

According to eyewitness accounts, the suspect allegedly threatened the taxi driver and took control of the vehicle, prompting the driver to raise an alarm. Residents and commercial drivers in the area reportedly chased the vehicle, blocked its path, and apprehended the suspect.

The crowd allegedly assaulted the suspect before officers from the Ejisu District Police Command arrived, intervened, and took him into custody. The recovered taxi has also been secured as part of the investigation.

Police say investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will be processed through the legal system if sufficient evidence establishes an offence.

The police have also reminded the public to avoid mob justice, stressing that suspects should be handed over to law enforcement for due process.

🚨. Ashanti Region: Police arrest seven in narcotics operation

Police have arrested seven people in separate intelligence-led operations targeting suspected narcotics-related activities in the Ashanti Region.

The arrests were carried out on Thursday, August 20, 2026, by the IGP Special Operations Team (SOT) at Ejisu, Abrepo Junction and Atimatim.

According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the operations followed intelligence gathered on suspected narcotics activities at the three locations.

At Ejisu, Police arrested 43-year-old Nana Kwadwo Adu and 48-year-old Nana Kwame Fella.

At Abrepo Junction, four others — 23-year-old Stephanie Anokye, 20-year-old Roland Anokye, 30-year-old Gideon Owusu and 27-year-old Grace Fosua — were arrested.

At Atimatim, Police arrested 27-year-old Kofi Opoku, who was allegedly suspected of peddling narcotic substances and had previously evaded arrest.

The Police said quantities of pill pouches containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances were recovered. Other items included quantities of Tramaking 225mg and 250mg, Royal 255mg and Rophynol 100mg, as well as 860 tablets and capsules of Tramadol suspected to be unregistered drugs. An unspecified amount of Ghanaian currency was also recovered.

The seven suspects are currently in Police custody and are assisting with investigations.

Police said the investigations will seek to establish the source of the suspected substances, determine the extent of the suspects’ alleged involvement, and identify any other persons who may be connected to the activities.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has urged the public to continue providing credible information to support efforts to combat suspected narcotics-related activities and maintain public safety.

🚨. Mental Health Authority to Shut Down Kumasi Spiritual Centre Housing Over 2,000 Persons

The Mental Health Authority says it is taking steps to shut down a spiritual healing centre in Kumasi where more than 2,000 people with mental health conditions are reportedly being kept.

Chief Executive of the Mental Health Authority, Dr Eugene Kobla Dordoye, said some of the individuals at the facility believe they are receiving spiritual treatment from the centre’s leader.

According to him, the facility previously had a licence to operate, but the licence has since expired. He also raised concerns about reported conditions at the centre, including allegations that some persons with mental health conditions have been chained.

Dr Dordoye questioned how healthcare professionals could effectively provide treatment to individuals who remain restrained.

He further cautioned the public against prescribing or administering medication to people with mental health conditions without proper medical guidance.

The Mental Health Authority is urging families and the public to seek appropriate professional care and avoid practices that could endanger the lives and well-being of people experiencing mental health challenges.

🚨 Trotro crashes into police vehicle carrying suspects on KNUST campus; several injured

A police pickup vehicle carrying about seven suspected cannabis smokers has reportedly crashed into a commercial vehicle on the KNUST campus in Kumasi.

The accident occurred at the KNUST traffic light leading to Ayeduase. According to eyewitness accounts cited by Nhyira News, the police vehicle, reportedly travelling with its siren on, entered the intersection as the traffic light was green for the trotro, resulting in the collision.

Several people, including police officers, passengers on the trotro and some of the suspects being transported, reportedly sustained injuries. The injured persons were taken to the KNUST Hospital for medical attention.

An eyewitness said one police officer sustained serious injuries and collapsed at the scene but was quickly transported to the hospital. No death has been reported in connection with the crash.

The accident caused temporary traffic congestion on the campus, but police officers later cleared the vehicles from the road.

Policy analyst and engineer Kosi Dedey has raised concerns about the economic conditions facing ordinary Ghanaians, pointing to the large crowds that turned up for KFC Ghana’s GH¢15 anniversary promotion as a sign that many households are under financial pressure.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Wednesday, August 19, Kosi Dedey said the willingness of customers to spend hours in queues for a discounted meal should prompt a deeper discussion about household incomes and living standards.

🚨. Firefighters Rescue Accident Victim, Recover GH¢50K, Over US$5,000 and Other Valuables

One person has sustained injuries following a road crash involving two vehicles at Suhum Niifio on the Accra–Kumasi Highway.

The accident occurred on Sunday, August 16, 2026, and involved a Ford F-150 and a Kia Rio.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), firefighters from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station responded to a distress call at about 8:03 p.m. and found a male occupant trapped inside the Kia Rio.

Using extrication equipment, the firefighters successfully freed the victim and transported him to the Suhum Government Hospital for medical attention.

The firefighters also recovered personal belongings and cash from the vehicles, including GH¢50,000, US$5,231.81, mobile phones, power banks, National ID cards and other valuables.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the Ford F-150 was overtaking when it collided with the rear of the Kia Rio. The crash caused extensive damage to the Ford F-150, while the Kia Rio sustained partial damage.

Fortunately, no fatalities were recorded.

The GNFS attributed the crash to wrongful overtaking and urged motorists to exercise caution and strictly observe road safety regulations to help prevent avoidable accidents.

The Ghana Police Service has cautioned motorists and motorcyclists against using AirPods, earphones or other audio devices while driving or riding.

According to the Police Public Affairs Directorate, the directive is part of measures to reduce road accidents and improve road safety across the country.

The Police warned that persons who violate the directive may be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with Ghanaian law. The announcement further stated that offenders could face up to two years’ imprisonment upon conviction.

🚨 27-Year-Old Spiritualist Arrested Over Alleged Attempt to Use 11-Year-Old Girl for Ritual

A 27-year-old spiritualist, identified as Okomfo C Prof, has been arrested after residents of Lamtey in the Ga South Municipality, near Kasoa, allegedly caught him with an 11-year-old schoolgirl inside an uncompleted building.

According to residents, the girl’s cries from inside the building raised suspicion and prompted them to intervene. They reportedly entered the premises, rescued the girl and apprehended the suspect.

Residents also claim that a search of the suspect’s belongings uncovered a bag containing items they believed to be human bones.

The suspect was reportedly assaulted by some angry residents before being handed over to the Police.

The rescued girl is said to be safe, while the suspect remains in Police custody as investigations continue.
