GADANGME JOURNALISTS ASSOCIATION EXPRESSES DEEP DISSATISFACTION OVER EXCLUSION FROM GBESE ODADAO CELEBRATIONS
The Gadangme Journalists Association (GDJA) has observed with great concern and disappointment a circulating promotional banner for this year’s Gbese Odadao 2026 Rites. The banner conspicuously features various news outlets as official media partners, while completely excluding indigenous Gadangme Media Platforms.
As an association, we view this outright sidelining as a clear, unfortunate message that our services and presence are neither valued nor required during the sacred Odadao Rites. Even if the broader spectrum of media houses under our association were to be overlooked, the total omission of Obonu, a station that has demonstrated constant commitment to Ga traditions over the decades, is baffling and unacceptable.
This consistent exclusion sends a troubling signal to our members that their relentless efforts to promote Gadangme culture are being disregarded.
The Gadangme Journalists Association has consistently shown immense dedication to the traditions, customs, and heritage of the Ga-Dangme people. From the very commencement of this year’s ban on drumming and noise-making to its final day, our members have worked tirelessly, providing positive, supportive, and extensive coverage to elevate our cultural practices.
To relegate the work of Gadangme media to the background in this manner implies that our contributions are seen as mere trivialities, rather than vital instruments for cultural preservation and community development.
We wish to state emphatically that the association will not sit by while its members are marginalized on our own ancestral soil. If this issue is not addressed appropriately and immediately by the organizers, the association will be forced to advise its members accordingly on our subsequent relationship and coverage of these events.
We expect fairness, mutual respect, and recognition for the media houses that genuinely champion the Ga-Dangme narrative.
