On the journey of growth, Iโve learned valuable lessons from networking that go beyond business; they are principles for life. One of the most powerful tools we have is the mind, but for it to work positively, it must be open and ready to absorb new knowledge. Many carry past hurts, ego, and pride into new opportunities, unknowingly blocking growth.
A mentor once shared a story that changed my perspective forever, called โEmpty Your Cupโ by Japanese martial arts master Suzuki.
Master Suzuki ran a school where beginners spent the first year doing humble tasks like cleaning while being closely watched. One American student, well-educated and determined, did everything but was held back twice at promotion time. Frustrated, he confronted Master Suzuki, who poured tea into a full cup causing it to overflow. He explained that the studentโs mind was already too full to absorb new lessons. The student thought he knew everything and wasnโt truly open to learning.
The takeaway is clear:
1. To learn, first empty your ego and be willing to start fresh.
2. Growth often requires unlearning old beliefs.
3. New ideas emerge every day, so an open mind is essential.
4. Emptying your cup allows you to receive and apply true knowledge.
This reminds me that real progress starts when we let go of pride and open our minds completely.
If you are new here, follow me. Letโs grow and succeed together!
