My First Book is Successfully Published.....But Why Do I Feel Empty

"Remembering 2014........"

In fact, it's somewhat of a surprise to me.

But here it goes...

10 years ago I successfully published my first book *(A Mathematics Past Questions and Answers Book For JHS students).*

It succeeded.

I'll admit: I struggled to sell all *1000* copies at the initial stage.

But I was excited for being able to get my work out there in the world. A milestone I've been pondering over again and again for years has been finally crushed.

This was actually a massive win for me, becuase the #1 challenge I was trying to overcome was *Fear of putting my work out there*.

Now it's solved.

And now, at least I have an expectation of getting a side-business that will make me some income.

So yes. Now we're REALLY in business.

But here's the thing...

This quote-unquote "victory" actually felt rather hollow.

Truth be told... I felt kinda... down.

How bizarre was that?

It wasn't like I'm was not grateful. I was.

The problem was that you expect the wins to feel better than they do.

But more importantly: I'd built up so much excitement and poured so much energy into it, that naturally, you do CRASH afterwards.

"What goes up, must come down..." after all.

Some schools were already lined-up to get copies of my books. But for some strange reasons I was still not bumped anymore.

"What's wrong?" I thought to myself.

Gold Medal Syndrome was kicking in – that's what?

Gold Medal Syndrome = "feeling down after achieving something remarkable."

It's called this becuase 40% of athletes go through this.

A few examples:

Michael Phelps: After winning 23 Olympic gold medals, Phelps struggled with depression and substance abuse, admitting to feeling lost after each Olympics.

Simone Biles: After winning multiple gold medals, Biles faced immense mental health challenges, pulling out of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics to prioritize her well-being.

Usian Bolt: Bolt admitted to feeling directionless post-retirement, missing the structure and goals of his competitive life.

This is common in business and other spots too. Elon Musk, Michael Jordan and Steve Jobs all experienced a similar phenomenon of emotional f**kery after a "success."

Why is this the case?

I don't know. But talking from my own experience...

You build up all this excitement... just to realise there's not really anything on the other side:

Life still goes on as normal

You're still the same person

Now you just have more work to do

It's like the pursuit of the goal is sweeter than the goal itself.

For me, afterwards: my energy was drained.

Why am I sharing this?

Am I trying to scare you off hitting your goals?

No. Not all.

I'm hoping you can learn something from all this.

By preparing you for the REALITY of "winning."

So here are some takeaways and insights:

1. Do not make the mistake of expecting something "special" on the other side (you'll just be disappointed, trust me).

Instead, be grateful for what you already have.

That feeling of "lack" in your life can't and WON'T be cured by hitting your goals.

You must feel it NOW.

So... say thanks to God today (for everything you have). I mean it.

I promise: you'll feel amazing.

2. Stay in pursuit.

Sounds vague right? So let me elaborate:

What I mean is to focus less on the ACHIEVEMENT itself and more on the process of achieving it.

This quote from the world's #1 researcher of stress, might explain why:

"Dopamine is not about the pursuit of happiness, it is about the happiness of pursuit.” — Dr. Robert Sapolsky

And that couldn't ring more true here.

So much of life and enjoyment is about the anticipation of things coming. The anticipation is often actually more enjoyable than the experience.

So I guess to put this in a neat little cliche...

It's not about the destination... It's about the journey.

Thank God I've come to understand this phenomenon.

I'd say we worked it out in real time there, wouldn't you?

So I appreciate you reading about my struggles: no matter how backwards they might seem...

Best Regards

HOW I STRATEGICALLY AND INTENTIONALLY LOST THE "BLAME GAME"

The year was 2012...

I was super excited to start my National Service with three friends at the University of Cape Coast Hospital.

We worked really hard to impress our boss, and it paid off! Our boss recommended us for permanent jobs in the Account Section.

But then, disaster struck! The Finance Department said no because of the government's embargo on employment.

I was so angry and felt it was unfair. "Why won't the government give us a chance?" I thought.

But looking back, I realize I was wrong.

I had an "entitlement mindset" - thinking someone owed me something.

But here's the thing: blaming others won't get you anywhere! It's time to take ownership of your life.

You have the power to shape your destiny!

Don't waste another minute blaming:

1. Your parents for not doing enough?

2. Friends for not being supportive?

3. Ex for not loving you back?

4. Employer for not paying enough?

5. Government for not giving you job?

Stop! No one owes you anything.

Take control and make things happen for yourself!

You are capable, strong, and deserving of an amazing life.

So, what's holding you back?

Let go of excuses and take the first step towards your dreams!"

The focus is not making money, but the focus is making money while maintaining the lifestyle we love:

1. Wealth of time
2. Wealth of income
3. Wealth of lifestyle

Making more money is nice, but making it on your own terms is even nicer.

Common Online Business Beliefs that I disagree:

- You need high-tech tools (quality phone) to start

- You need to be an expert before you start

- You need to be academically good to be profitable

Rise above all these limiting beliefs

Don't give an ear to people who haven't taken this path, before they kill your dreams.

A curious story: the grandma and the ham (take back control of your life):

Have you ever heard the story of the grandma and the ham?

A decade ago, I heard it at a business seminar.

It's one of the most impactful stories I've ever heard.

And I'm not exaggerating when I say it changed the trajectory of my entire life.

If you've never heard it, it goes a little something like this:

One day, a mother was teaching her daughter to cook ham using the family recipe passed down for generations.

1) Fill a pot with hot water
2) Cut the ends of the ham
3) Boil the ham for 30 minutes

For the next 20 years, the daughter cooked ham following the family recipe.

Until one day, she married an honorable man and they had a daughter of their own.

5 years later, it was time for the daughter to learn the family recipe.

But when they got to step 2, the little girl was puzzled.

"Why do we cut the ends off the ham, mommy?"

"Because that's how your grandmother taught me," the mom replied.

"But why did she cut the ends of the ham?," asked the little girl.

"Hmmm, I'm not sure, why don't you call and ask her?"

Ring, Ring

"Grandma, why do we cut the ends off the ham?"

"Well dear, it's because it was the only way to fit it into the small pot we had."

Do you see the point?

The mother spent 20 years cutting the ends off the ham because she was blindly following a set of rules.

Never questioning if there was a good reason for doing so.

This might sound trivial when talking about tasty dinner recipes.

But it's far from trivial when applied to life-defining core beliefs like politics, career choices, and where to live.

For example, when I was young, a family member told me that all rich people were evil.

It wasn't until I met a kind, compassionate wealthy business owner that I realized this wasn't true.

Before that, I assumed, without question, that all rich people generated wealth through acts of corruption.

If this core belief had never been replaced, I would not have become a business owner myself or acquired any meaningful level of wealth.

Unfortunately, we all grow up being influenced by messages, advice, and a culture we never chose.

They play a key role in shaping our destiny and personality - for better or for worse.

We grow up, never being taught to question the beliefs we were unfairly indoctrinated to believe as children.

Then one day, we wake up miserable, with crippling debt, working jobs we never actually wanted, all because of beliefs we never took the time to question.

It's insanity!
Insanity!

This makes the pursuit of truth the most life defining skill you can possibly learn.

As Carl Jung famously said:

"People don't have ideas. Ideas have people."

Ideas determine what you think, how you act, and the success you're able to achieve.

Being possessed by terrible ideas will leave you hateful, miserable, and with no control over the direction of your own life.

It's not your fault you were raised to believe garbage.

But it is your responsibility to take out the mental trash and start thinking for yourself.

Most creators I know look up to Dan Koe, Alex Hormozi, and Naval Ravikant.

All three of them are original thinkers.

They scrutinize everything they learn by running it through a truth filter.

Only the most useful and powerful ideas survive to shape their destiny.

Don't wait any longer to scrutinize the mind viruses polluting your mind.

Apply my truth filter protocol:

1) Sit in silence for 15 minutes

2) Become aware of your unconscious thought patterns and assumptions

3) Put each one to scrutiny with a pen and paper

4) Search for evidence of truth

5) Forget beliefs that aren't serving you

It's never too late to take back control.

The trajectory of your entire life is at stake.

The future belongs to independent thinkers.

The future you don't intentionally plan for - Will NOT come

The skill you don't deliberately develop - Will NOT grow

The business you don't strategically market - Will NOT bring money

The relationship you don't sacrifice for - Will NOT work

The lesson? You're 100% responsible for your success.
