National Girls-In-ICT Training Of Trainers Begins In Savannah Region
A five-day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop under the National Girls-In-ICT Programme has begun at Damongo Senior High School in the Savannah Region, bringing together 100 teachers to be equipped with essential digital skills.
The initiative, led by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, is designed to build teachers’ capacity in computer programming, coding, Scratch, cybersecurity, animation, game development, and other areas of digital literacy. The participating educators will, in turn, train and mentor 1,000 girls selected from districts across the region.
Speaking on behalf of the Savannah Regional Minister, Chief Director of the Regional Coordinating Council, Mr. Ebenezer Amoah, praised the Ministry and its partners for investing in the digital empowerment of young girls. He stressed that the programme would help close the gender gap in technology and prepare future leaders for opportunities in the digital economy.
Representing the sector Minister, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), the Director of Policy, Planning, Budgeting, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Austin Hesse, reaffirmed government’s commitment to digital inclusion. He described the training as a vital step toward nurturing the region’s future ICT leaders and advancing women’s participation in the technology sector.
Outlining the training modules, Madam Priscilla Hope of the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) introduced the team of instructors from her institution. She emphasized the hands-on, practical approach of the programme, which is designed to ensure teachers gain both knowledge and applied skills.
Mr. Bawa Shaibu, Head of Training at the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), also addressed participants, highlighting GIFEC’s role in promoting digital inclusion nationwide. He assured that the Fund remained committed to supporting infrastructure and resources to sustain such capacity-building initiatives.
