KBTH Strike: Union Suspends Action as Fresh Dispute Emerges Over Laboratory Manager Advert

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) chapter of the Medical Laboratory Professional Workers’ Union (MELPWU) has suspended its planned industrial action following emergency engagements with key stakeholders.

The strike notice, issued on January 27, 2026, cited unresolved demands including key laboratory appointments and opposition to plans to outsource the Central Laboratory.

Meetings involving the Ministry of Health, KBTH management, and allied unions led to admissions of administrative lapses and agreed corrective actions.

However, fresh concerns have emerged over a disputed advert for Laboratory Manager, which the union says breaches prior agreements and may trigger renewed action if not withdrawn.
