Gray Memorial students educated on the values of peace
The Greater Accra Regional Peace Council, has conducted a peace sensitisation programme for students at Gray Memorial Basic School in Adabraka in the Korle Klottey Municipality.
Addressing the students, George Oko Mensah, Acting Regional Executive Secretary, emphasized that the National Peace Council is established to address the peace and development challenges of the country, stressing that conflict is a natural part of life, necessitating a neutral body, such as the council, to aid in its resolution whenever it occurs.
He discussed the severe impact of conflict, such as loss of lives, property destruction, displacement of individuals, and interruptions in education and development. He referenced Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Ivory Coast as conflict-affected nations, urging students to actively safeguard and value the peace that Ghana is enjoying. He emphasized that students should reject all forms of violence and embrace peaceful conflict resolution methods.
Esther Kwarteng, Assistant Programmes Manager, emphasized the significance of respect, tolerance, integrity, dialogue, kindness, and diversity and trust building to promote peace in everyday life and in schools. She explained how these values foster peaceful and supportive school environments.
Students were encouraged to respect one each other’s ethnicity, religion, and social status, engage in constructive dialogue, and build trust among their peers. She condemned bullying, social exclusion, intolerance, and negative peer influence, emphasizing their harmful effects on well-being and academic progress.
She advised students to take their studies seriously to become responsible citizens and contribute to societal well-being.
