*IMF Credits BoG Account with $365m After Fifth Review Approval*

Some US$365 million from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has been credited to the Bank of Ghana’s account on December 22, 2025, following the successful completion of the fifth review of Ghana’s programme with the Fund.

The disbursement comes after the IMF Executive Board approved the review on December 17, 2025, in Washington, DC, under the country’s Extended Credit Facility (ECF) arrangement.

With this latest inflow, Ghana’s total disbursements under the IMF programme now stand at about US$2.8 billion, since the country formally signed onto the programme on May 17, 2023. This marks the fifth tranche Ghana has received under the Fund-supported programme.

Budget support, market impact

Some market watchers say the immediate impact of the disbursement will be the additional fiscal space it provides government to finance projects captured in the 2025 Budget.

Under the programme arrangement, the primary purpose of the IMF inflow is to support budget ex*****on and strengthen external buffers.

*Apex Court Blocks Kpandai Rerun Election*

The Supreme Court has issued a stay of ex*****on on the Electoral Commission's (EC) plans to conduct a parliamentary rerun election in the Kpandai constituency, pending the final determination of a judicial review application.

This decisive intervention follows a prima facie case established by Matthew Nyindam, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, who is contesting the High Court's annulment of the 2024 election results.

The apex court has thereby suspended all preparatory activities pertaining to the rerun election, effectively preserving the status quo ante.

The controversy stems from a petition filed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, which led to the Tamale High Court's nullification of Nyindam's election.

However, the Supreme Court's judicious review has brought the EC's plans to a temporary standstill, with the matter adjourned to January 13, 2026, for further deliberation.

The court's directive is clear: the Electoral Commission is to desist from taking any further steps towards conducting the rerun election until the judicial review application is finally determined. This development underscores the judiciary's commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that electoral disputes are resolved through due process.

*Mahama Ayariga & Rockson‑Nelson Dafeamekpor – Bill to Scrap the OSP*

*What’s happening?*
- *Mahama Ayariga* (Majority Leader) and *Rockson‑Nelson Dafeamekpor* (Majority Chief Whip) have drafted a *private member’s bill* called the *Office of the Special Prosecutor (Repeal) Bill, 2025*.
- The bill seeks to *repeal the OSP Act, 2017 (Act 959)* and *abolish the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).*

*Why they say it’s needed:*
- *Duplication:* OSP’s prosecutorial powers overlap with the *Attorney‑General (AG)*, who already holds constitutional authority (Article 88).
- *Cost & Efficiency:* 8 years in, they argue OSP has high operational costs, limited results, and creates *administrative bloat*.
- *Constitutional Concerns:* Some say the OSP’s independence conflicts with the AG’s role.

*Key points in the memorandum:*
- Transfer all *corruption prosecution* back to the *AG’s office.*
- Reduce *budgetary overhead* and streamline anti‑corruption machinery.
- Improve *coordination* within the justice sector.

*Opposing view:*
- President *John Dramani Mahama* (former President) called it *premature*, noting the OSP is the only agency with *full prosecutorial independence*.
- Speaker *Alban Bagbin* warned against *politicization* of anti‑corruption efforts.

*Status:*
- Filed on *8 December 2025*.
- Still under parliamentary consideration; public and legal debate ongoing.

*Croatia coach Zlatko Dalić:* “We don’t care too much about Ghana.”

*Kufuor’s own words expose NPP misgovernance – NDC*

Former President *John Agyekum Kufuor* recently gave an interview on _The Delay Show_ where he said he wasn’t consulted on major decisions under President *Nana Akufo‑Addo*, such as the *National Cathedral project*, the *Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP)*, and the *Power Distribution Services (PDS) deal*. He also noted that the NPP’s 2016 victory rode on his legacy, but after COVID‑19 the administration’s policies shifted and many of those projects (Cathedral, DDEP, PDS) became sources of public anger and contributed to the party’s defeat in 2024

The *NDC*, in a statement by Deputy National Communications Officer *Godwin Ako Gunn*, seized on Kufuor’s remarks, saying his “own words” confirm long‑standing NDC criticisms that Akufo‑Addo’s government was *unilateral, arrogant, and mismanaged* key sectors, leading to economic hardship and loss of investor confidence. The NDC urged Ghanaians to see Kufuor’s comments as validation of their call for *accountable, people‑centered leadership*

*Key points from Kufuor’s interview*
- *National Cathedral:* He only learned of it after construction began; state properties (judges’ homes) were demolished, yet it’s unfinished.
- *DDEP & Bond Market:* Policies after COVID‑19 caused bond market turbulence and hurt investors/pensioners.
- *PDS Scandal:* Mentioned as another controversial decision he didn’t understand.
- *Electoral impact:* Linked the 2024 loss to these governance failures
