COMMUNITIES APPEAL FOR URGENT ACTION OVER COLLAPSED BRIDGE AND UNFINISHED ROAD

Residents are calling on authorities to urgently intervene following the collapse of a major bridge and deteriorating road conditions along the route from the Bypass through Na’ayok Road, crossing near the Basintale family house toward Yakut.

According to residents, the situation has become severe, with heavy vehicles reportedly involved in accidents due to the damaged and unsafe road conditions.

Community members indicated that construction works had previously commenced under a contractor but have since stalled, leaving the project incomplete and creating growing concern among road users.

The affected corridor serves as a critical link connecting Bugir Corner, Na’ayok, Basyond and surrounding communities to Bawku Township.

Residents say the damaged infrastructure has disrupted access to markets, hospitals, schools and daily economic activities, affecting livelihoods and movement across several communities.

The communities are appealing to government authorities and all relevant agencies to urgently assess the situation, resume work and restore safe access for residents.

“Our communities need connection, safety and access to essential services.”

FIFA ORDERS EGYPT TO REMOVE SEVEN STARS FROM WORLD CUP JERSEY

FIFA has directed Egypt’s national team to remove the seven stars displayed on their 2026 FIFA World Cup jersey ahead of their opening match against Belgium.

According to reports, the stars — which symbolize Egypt’s seven Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) titles — do not comply with FIFA’s official tournament kit regulations.

The decision means Egypt must adjust their jersey design before taking to the pitch in their World Cup campaign.

The seven stars have long been a symbol of Egypt’s dominance in African football, but FIFA’s tournament rules require participating teams to follow approved kit standards.

This development has sparked discussions among football fans as Egypt prepares for one of its biggest matches of the tournament.

CONGO OPPOSITION LEADER MARTIN FAYULU REPORTED INJURED DURING KINSHASA PROTEST
Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo — Opposition leader Martin Fayulu was reportedly injured during political protests held in the capital city, Kinshasa, amid growing national debate over possible constitutional reforms.
The demonstration was organised by opposition groups who expressed concern that proposed constitutional changes could influence future presidential term limits in the country.
Reports indicate that tensions escalated during the gathering, leading to confrontations and intervention by security forces. Videos circulating on social media appeared to show Fayulu receiving assistance after sustaining injuries during the unrest.
The incident has drawn public attention both within DR Congo and internationally, as political stakeholders continue discussions surrounding governance and constitutional matters.
Authorities are yet to provide further official updates regarding the full extent of injuries and the outcome of the protest activities.

Global oil prices have surged by more than $2 per barrel after Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes, following recent US air strikes.

Brent crude oil climbed by 2.47% to $95.40 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose by 2.89% to $92.63 per barrel.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has raised concerns across global markets, as the strategic waterway handles a significant portion of the world’s oil and gas shipments, raising fears of possible disruptions to energy supplies and further increases in fuel prices.

The oil price movements were reported after the latest escalation between Iran and the United States around the Strait of Hormuz.

Bongo Ideas Applause H.E President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reportedly directed all government appointees to refrain from attending private award ceremonies as part of efforts to promote discipline, accountability, and focus within public service.

The directive has sparked public discussions, with some citizens welcoming the move and arguing that government officials should prioritize delivering meaningful results to Ghanaians rather than participating in numerous award events.

Popular Ghanaian social commentator Bongo Ideas has also praised the decision, describing it as a necessary step to end what he considers the excessive culture of public officials receiving awards while in office.

According to him, public service should be measured by the impact and achievements of leaders, not by the number of plaques or recognitions they receive at ceremonies.

The move highlights a growing conversation around the responsibilities of public office holders and the need for greater dedication to national development.

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation has officially obtained the exclusive terrestrial free-to-air broadcasting rights to air matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Ghana.
