The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has imposed a strict curfew banning motorbike operations across parts of the Ashanti Region after 7:00 PM.

The measure follows the recent fatal shooting of Kusasi Chief Alhaji Abdul-Malik Azenbge at Asawase on 22 July 2025 and a second killing days later.

Riders found operating unlicensed, without lighting, or wearing smocks (accused of being used to conceal weapons) will also be barred under the directive issued by Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene.

Additional emergency measures include suspending an intertribal football competition and boosting police and military presence in identified hotspots to prevent further unrest and restore calm.

Less than a week after the brutal assassination of Kusasi Chief Abdul‑Malik Azenbe in Asawase, Kumasi, another man has been fatally shot by unknown assailants riding a motorbike. According to eyewitness reports and security sources, the attackers opened fire at close range while the victim was near his pickup truck after eating at a food joint, killing him instantly.

This latest incident has heightened fears in the community, prompting police and military deployment and the initiation of forensic investigations. Authorities have not confirmed any direct link between the two shootings, but the fast succession and shared location have escalated concerns among residents and traditional leaders
